Position Description

 

The Robert A. Corrigan Visiting Professor in Social Justice will be a scholar who is firmly engaged in cutting edge academic, educational and community initiatives that promote social justice and advance the aspirations of people of African American/Black ancestry.  The visiting professor will be expected to contribute and enrich the work of faculty, students and constituent communities of the College of Ethnic Studies by advancing the theoretical framework, expression or practice of social justice. The awardee will be assigned as a fellow to the Cesar Chavez Institute in the College of Ethnic Studies for a term of six months to one year (stipend prorated to time commitment). 

 

In addition to teaching one course per semester, the Corrigan Visiting Professor will deliver one public lecture or performance each semester, and participate in select activities related to the promotion of the Visiting Professorship. Successful candidates will be those who can best address the theoretical and practical impact to relevant constituent communities, their engagement with SFSU students and collaboration with SFSU faculty.  Candidates should clearly address how this visiting professorship will advance their career and how their advanced leadership will help to reshape the field.

 

The Robert A. Corrigan Visiting Professor will enhance the University’s reputation as a premier public urban institution dedicated to interdisciplinary teaching, scholarship and community engagement for equity and social justice.

 

Annual stipend (prorated for shorter terms):  $100,000 to be used either as direct compensation to the visitor or applied to work related expenses (e.g. professional materials, student/staff support, travel). This stipend may be received concurrently with other support that is complementary to the intent of this visiting professorship (e.g. grants, sabbatical leaves or other professional awards).

The successful candidate will possess the appropriate educational and professional background to document excellence in his/her field of expertise (Ph.D., MFA, or other professionally reviewed equivalency).
