San Diego Mesa College is located in Clairemont Mesa in San Diego and is one of three colleges in the San Diego Community College District. Applications are currently being accepted for Student Services Supervisor I at San Diego Mesa College. Under the supervision of the Dean of Student Development and Director of Admissions, the Student Services Supervisor I will be responsible for overseeing the full range of admission and records and other student services functions including admissions, international students, residency, registration, prerequisites, attendance, rosters, and other student services areas.

This position will be in the Admissions Office beginning March 1, 2019. Hours are Monday to Thursday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Note that schedules are adjusted as needed to accommodate departmental needs to support peak times. The selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs.

Major responsibilities include the following:
Coordinate and supervise office operations, including admissions, international students, registration, residency, certifications, records, veterans, and others for a specific shift.


Provide leadership and work with staff to develop and maintain a high performance, centralized and responsive service to the District, staff, and campus visitors.


Supervise, train, evaluate, and assign office staff; participate in the hiring and disciplinary recommendations of staff. Supervise staff within labor contract provisions in a way that contributes to positive employee relations.


Maintain student records, providing information to students and staff regarding registration, enrollment, grades, and class schedules; responding to inquiries as referred by staff; coordinating and performing admissions activities with other departments.


Provide information to students and staff regarding admissions, registration, enrollment, grades, class schedules, and other areas of student services; respond to more difficult questions as referred by assigned staff; coordinate and perform admissions activities with other college departments.


Work collaboratively and assist with the coordination of procedures and activities with other offices such as the Business Office, Accounting, Financial Aid, Counseling, Veterans and Records, and other student services programs.


Assist students and staff in resolving problems and complaints involving admissions, records, attendance rosters, grades, and other areas of student services.


Clarify and explain complex college admissions and records policies and procedures to students, faculty, staff, and the community in person, over the phone, or in writing in order to assure compliance.


Assure compliance of staff during a shift with district rules, policies, and procedures and laws governing residency, international students, veterans, admissions, and other areas of student services.


Assist in monitoring budget expenditures for student services program areas.


Serve on special committees and perform special projects as assigned.


Prepare and maintain reports and statistics as required.


Assist in the development and implementation of the district admissions and records processing calendar.


Implement success, equity, and achievement efforts as it relates to the admissions and other student services function.


Perform related duties as assigned.

Bachelors degree preferred. Experience with staff supervision preferred. College Admissions and Records experience highly desirable. Knowledge: Applicable sections of California Education Codes. Basic mathematics and accounting principles. District organization, operations, policies, and objectives. Laws, rules, regulations, and policies relating to the registration, admission, and related student services areas of a community college student. Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment, including computer hardware and software. Oral and written communications skills. Principles and practices of administration, supervision, and training. Technical aspects of field of specialty. Skills and Abilities: Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Coordinate student services operations. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with administration, faculty, staff, students, and the general public. Interpret and apply the rules, regulations, and policies governing registration and admissions and other functions assigned. Perform special functions, prepare and maintain reports and statistics. Prepare and meet schedules and timelines. Operate computers and business-related software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. Plan and organize work. Supervise, train, evaluate, and schedule office staff. Work independently with little direction.

Range 10 ($4,904.40 $8,188.09) per month based on the current Supervisory and Professional Employees Association Salary Schedule A

Initial salary placement is commensurate with related experience and promotional rules. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid: medical, dental, and vision plans; sick and vacation leave; and opportunities for professional development. Initial Salary Placement, Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the SPAA Supervisory & Professional Administrators Association Handbook. This position is FLSA exempt and may not accrue overtime. A temporary probationary period will be applied to the employee entering this assignment.
