The Position:
Applications are currently being accepted to fill two (2) 50% contract Instructional Lab Technician / Trades positions in the Fire Protection Technology Department, located at Miramar College. Hours will vary as these are both 50% contract assignments. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs.

Please note that an employee may be transferred to any site at the option of the Chancellor.

Desired Qualifications:
An associates degree or certificate in Fire Technology or a closely related field or equivalent coursework. Minimum of two years of successful work experience in Fire Technology: volunteer, stipend, seasonal, part-time and full-time experience acceptable. Graduation from a CA State Accredited Firefighter 1 Academy or possession of a Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 Certification. Certified SFT Fire Instructor 1A and Fire Instructor 1B or Training Instructor 1A, Training Instructor 1B or Instructor Methodology 1. Possession of a State Fire Training (SFT) Examination Evaluator Certificate (Skills Evaluator). Possession of a current Class C or higher, Drivers License with Firefighter Endorsement. Evidence or examples of computer related experience including Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe and Fire Simulation software.Major factors to be evaluated for this classification will include knowledge, skills, and abilities to: Demonstrate competency in fire fighting techniques and equipment commonly required in Fire Technology. Maintain fire apparatus and fire fighting equipment in ready conditions for a variety of Fire Technology courses. Demonstrate competency in the application of safety regulations involving the preparation and handling of fire apparatus and equipment. Maintain the Candidate Physical Abilities Testing course and related equipment. Demonstrate basic computer competency with the ability to learn fire fighting simulation software related programs and basic office applications. Ensure the care, maintenance, and security of fire fighting equipment and supplies. Coordinate fire fighting equipment and facility usage. Plan and organize work to meet schedules and deadlines. Maintain SFT training records, prepare reports and order supplies as needed. Work independently with little direction. Train and furnish work directions to other lab technicians or student workers. Evaluate skills in fire fighting during IFSAC Fire Academy Skills Preparation and Testing courses. Administer fire fighting skills proficiency exams and written exams as needed. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Pay Information:
Range 23 This Position is a 50% FTE Salary Is prorated to: $1,804.46 $2,880.32 per month based on the current AFT Classified Unit Office Technical Salary Schedule

Initial salary placement is commensurate with related experience and promotional rules. Initial Salary Placement, Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 Classified Staff Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is FLSA Non-Exempt and may accrue overtime. A temporary probationary period will be applied to the employee entering this assignment.
