The current vacancy is a 100% assignment at Mesa College in the Mesa Tutoring and Computing Centers (MT2C) in the School of Learning Resources and Academic Support. Please note that although the assignment is located at Mesa, you may be transferred to any site at the option of the Chancellor.

Major Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Dean of Learning Resources and Academic Support and direction of the Mesa Tutoring and Computing Centers (MT2C) Tutoring Program Coordinator: Carry out the day-to-day operations of multiple embedded tutoring (supplemental instruction, classroom tutoring) programs; Collaborate with the Mesa Tutoring and Computing Centers (MT2C) Tutoring Program Coordinator and Dean of the Department of Learning Resources and Academic Support to hire, assess, and evaluate embedded and other tutors; Recruit, interview, and provide ongoing training and instruction for Mesa College students as well as graduate students from local universities to work as embedded and other tutors; Participate in proactive and positive campus-wide conversations relative to tutorial services and curriculum redesign involving embedded and other tutoring; Interface with departments across the curriculum to market and scale up multiple embedded tutoring programs; Create and implement faculty training sessions on best practices for working with embedded tutors; Maintain appropriate electronic records and reports; Participate actively in the work of the Mesa Tutoring and Computing Centers (MT2C) program as well as with the Department of Learning Resources and Academic Support; Lead others in professional growth and professional learning; Train tutors individually, in small groups, and in large groups, reinforcing and reevaluating the MT2C tutoring program philosophy; Provide orientations for students, instructors, and others; Guide students and tutors of various ethnic, racial and cultural backgrounds, and various learning abilities; Perform related duties as assigned.

Any masters degree level discipline in which learning assistance or tutoring is provided at the college where the coordinator is employed;ORA masters degree in education, educational psychology, or instructional psychology, or other masters degree with emphasis in adult learning theory.CCR 53415.

Desired Qualifications:
A minimum of two years experience working in a tutoring environment; Understanding of and experience with learning assistance centers, embedded learning assistance programs, as well as current andragogical theories connected to student success; Experience with recruiting tutors and faculty to support an overall tutoring program vision; Experience training tutors and faculty to maintain an equitable mindset when supporting students with assignments, concepts, principles, and terminologies; Ability to manage and organize large projects and multiple schedules involving faculty, tutors, and students; Knowledge of how to create monthly/quarterly/yearly reports, including how to provide input on program review as well as state and federal grants; Experience working with qualitative as well as quantitative data to support programmatic decision making; Experience in engaging in professional learning and disseminating these skills to others; Communicate effectively orally and in writing; Ability to work cooperatively with others as well as independently with little direction; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others over long periods of time; Demonstrate a commitment to the community college mission, equity, and student success.


Pay Information:
Class 1, Step A Class 6, Step C ($5,754.92 $7,754.42) per month based on the current AFT COLLEGE Faculty Tenured-Tenured Track Monthly Salary Schedule.

Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made with-in the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.
