FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES

In addition to teaching and scholarship, faculty are expected to engage in service to the department, school, and community. THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Engineering Science (Electrical Engineering Program) offers a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with specializations in electronics and communications and amaster's degree in Computer and Engineering Science with specializations in communications and photonics, and computer hardware and software systems. Teaching excellence and mentoring students are central to the mission of the department. Furthermore, with the goal of providing the North Bay industries and community with skilled and knowledgeable engineers, the department takes pride in focusing on hands-on student-centered research and projects. The Department enjoys strong ties with the high-technology industries in Sonoma County, in particular Keysight Technologies, and many individual local scientists and engineers. The Department's Industry Advisory Board provides advice and support and is currently focused on ABET accreditation for the undergraduate EE program.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION

The Department of Engineering Science within the School of Science & Technology (SST) at Sonoma State University (SSU) is seeking a highly motivated teacher/scholar to teach electrical engineering courses and laboratory activities at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Examples of such courses and laboratories are Electronic Circuits, Digital Circuits & Logic Design, Microprocessors & Embedded System Design, Analog & Digital Communications, Networking Protocols, RF and Microwave Communications, Wireless and Optical Communication, VLSI and ASIC Design, FPGA & DSP, Antenna Design, and Transmission Line Theory & Applications.

In addition to teaching face-to-face undergraduate and graduate courses, other duties include
-Developing new and improving existing hands-on real-world laboratory experiments using existing laboratory equipment;
-Supervising hands-on Senior Design Projects and Master's theses;
-Advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students;
-Serving on departmental, college, and university committees;
-Advising student organizations (IEEE, SWE, SHPE, etc.);
-Seeking external and internal funding;
-Publishing in top tier venues and engaging students in research activities;
-Taking responsibilities in activities related to ABET accreditation in electrical engineering;
-Developing interdisciplinary collaborations in education and research;
-Enhancing Sonoma State University's existing strengths through professional and institutional service.


PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

To be recommended for appointment, the candidate must have:

-A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field on or before the start date;
-Demonstrated excellence in face-to-face classroom teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels;
-Ability and interest to teach a wide range of courses related to Electrical Engineering;
-Demonstrated ability to develop new and improve existing hands-on real-world laboratory experiments for electrical engineering undergraduate and graduate students;
-Demonstrated involvement in scholarly research and seeking external grants;
-A strong commitment andability to work with diverse student population, staff, and faculty members;
-Ability to collaborate in a collegialfashion with other faculty members.

To be recommended for tenure, candidates must demonstrate satisfactory performance in four areas: teaching effectiveness; research and scholarship; University service; and public community service. Although tenure may be granted at any time, contract provisions specify that "the normal period of probation shall be a total of six (6) years of full-time probationary service and credited service, if any. Any deviation from the normal six (6) year probationary period shall be the decision of the President following his/her consideration of recommendations from the department or equivalent unit and appropriate administrator(s). Tenure is required for promotion above the level of Associate Professor.


RANK AND SALARY

Salary, service credit, and rank depends upon academic preparation and professional experience.

The salary range for this position is $84,481 - $100,068.
