Working Hours: Assignments are part-time/on call/as needed, with working hours anytime between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT:
Offer of employment to the persons selected for these assignments is contingent upon the following:
1) Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible and has applied for citizenship (per California Government Code 1031a).
2) Be at least 18 years of age (per California Government Code 1031b).
3) Be fingerprinted for purposes of searching local, state, and national fingerprint files to disclose any conviction information (per California Government Code 1031c).
4) Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
5) Successful completion of a pre-placement physical exam at district expense and submission of a current, negative tuberculosis (TB) test clearance.
6) Fulfillment of the aforementioned minimum qualifications, licenses and other requirements.

Basic Function and Other Details:
The MiraCosta College Police Department is seeking applicants with current California P.O.S.T. certification, or applicants who have completed a California P.O.S.T.-certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy within the past three (3) years, to serve as temporary/substitute police officers. Assignments can be at any location within the MiraCosta College District (Oceanside Campus, San Elijo Campus in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, or the Community Learning Center on Mission Avenue in Oceanside). Temporary/substitute officers do not attain permanent status with the District.

Under the direction of the police sergeants, serve as a peace officer of the State of California. Perform law enforcement, emergency preparedness, and crime prevention duties; perform investigative and protective duties; control the flow of traffic and enforce state and local traffic regulations; respond to and investigate a wide variety of criminal complaints and incidents; respond to emergency situations as a first responder.

Minimum Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications:

1) Have a U.S. high school diploma, GED certificate, or high school equivalency certificate, or a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited or approved college/university (per California Government Code 1031e).

2) Completion of at least a 664-hour California P.O.S.T.-Certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy within the past three (3) years, OR possession of a valid California P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate, OR a valid California Requalification Course Certificate, OR a valid California Basic Course Waiver.

Desirable Qualifications:
Two or more years of directly related experience in law enforcement.

Licenses and Other Requirements:Valid California driver license; valid First Aid Certificate, CPR certificate, and AED certificate issued by an authorized agency, District-approved DMV driving record, successful completion of Government Code 1030 sections, psychological, medical, polygraph, and background investigations; successful completion of crime prevention training requirements on a monthly basis as well as all other department training requirements.
