Hourly Rate or Monthly Salary: Starting $2,471.66 per month

Working Hours: One regular, part-time, classified staff position (non-teaching), 18 hours per week, 10 months per year (August through May), on the Oceanside Campus. The work schedule will normally consist of morning, afternoon, and/or evening hours, Monday through Friday, and may vary from semester to semester depending on class schedules. The person selected for this position will be subject to assignment to any district facility during any hours of operation.

Basic Function and Other Details:
BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist within the Art Department by performing complex technical work in an instructional learning environment for a highly technical or complex vocational or academic subject area; exercise judgment and initiative in coordinating labs and other instructional facilities and materials of the assigned area of learning.

Representative Duties:
(E = essential job function)

1. Prepare, develop, explain and demonstrate learning exercises and instructional materials to aid in student comprehension and execution of course work for traditional photography; present information to students and instructional personnel in a logical, accurate and interesting manner. Provide information on available learning resources. (E)

2. Assist instructors, staff and students in the use of a variety of photographic equipment, materials and supplies in an instructional laboratory setting, including computer hardware and software applications; design, modify and enforce lab procedures and policies. (E)

3. Monitor students in darkroom and lab procedures; encourage student participation; check student work; demonstrate safety and emergency procedures in classroom, lab and workshop situations; assure security of lab materials, equipment, machinery and computers. (E)

4. Establish and monitor lab schedules; set up and supervise labs; prepare and issue materials; dispose of materials; check out/in photographic equipment and materials; maintain appropriate records. (E)

5. Provide work direction training to Instructional Assistants and student workers or interns; verify payroll records. (E)

6. Maintain photography program budget as part of the art department budget; coordinate purchases and other expenditures; monitor accounts and request transfer of funds as appropriate; maintain records and prepare related reports. (E)

7. Order, receive, catalog and store supplies, materials and equipment; direct and participate in inventory of lab equipment and materials, assuring that adequate quantities are available for instructional use; mark equipment with approved identification. Provide technical assistance in the preparation of specifications for equipment and material purchases; interview vendors to assess new equipment and supplies and recommend selection as requested. (E)

8. Maintain learning environment in a safe, clean and orderly condition; make minor repairs and adjustments to learning equipment; perform more complex or technical repairs; operate specialized tools, instruments and equipment as needed. (E)

9. Operate and instruct others in the use of traditional and digital photo related equipment and materials including computers and related equipment such as monitors, as required. (E)

10. Participate in the planning, design and construction of department instructional facilities.

11. Assist in developing recruitment programs for prospective and continuing students; assist in recruiting students for assigned programs through industry organizations, committees and area high schools as assigned.

12. Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
EITHER a bachelor's degree or the equivalent* in photography, art or related field AND one year of related work experience;

OR any associate degree or the equivalent* AND four years of related work experience in art, art history, fine arts or related field.

IMPORTANT: For work experience, one "year" is defined as equivalent to 40 hours per week for 12 months, or at least 2,080 hours.

Desirable Qualifications:
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Experience in operating and supervising a photographic darkroom, including repairing equipment, mixing photographic chemicals, contacting vendors, ordering materials, maintaining records, and monitoring budget and expenses. 2. Knowledge and training with OSHA and safe practices for photographic darkrooms. 3. Experience in supervising students in a photographic darkroom. 4. Extensive knowledge of photographic principles, B&W film processing, printing, presentation techniques, and the proper functions of photographic equipment, including various formats of film cameras. 5. Experience with techniques and function of studio lighting equipment, maintenance and proper use. 6. Knowledge and experience with digital cameras, scanning, computers, and image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Camera RAW for post processing. 7. Experience and knowledge of basic color management for ink jet printing, such as Epson printers, both small and large format. 8. Experience teaching or tutoring in the art studio environment. 9. Demonstrated history of art exhibitions of applicant's work.
