Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Ph.D in Apparel Design and Merchandising or closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered but must have a Ph. D by the time of appointment. Applicants must demonstrate ability in teaching, mentoring, and working with a diverse student population. Experience in working in higher education is desired. A background in merchandising, retailing, textile technology, and design technology is desired. Evidence of effective teaching experience and strong scholarly publication is preferred. Experience in student advisement is desirable. Grant writing experience is also desirable. Curriculum development experience is preferred. Strong communication skills preferred. Interpersonal orientation that encourages productive interaction with students, colleagues, and other campus stakeholders and promotes collegiality in department, college and university contexts.
CSUN is a Learning Centered University. The successful candidate will be expected to join faculty and staff in a commitment to active learning, to the assessment of learning outcomes, and to multiple pathways that enable students to graduate.
At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.
Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of apparel design and merchandising. Establish a continuous pattern of scholarly activities, including research and participation in professional activities. Participate in university service and governance. Collaborate in projects with other disciplines and the textile and apparel industry. Work with a diverse group of students. Advise undergraduate and graduate majors. Supervise graduate students’ research. Lead or contribute to curriculum and program development. Coordinate undergraduate and graduate research.
