Responsibilities:

The Master of Arts in Kinesiology program at Saint Mary's College focuses on the study of human beings engaged in physical activity. It is designed to ensure that graduate students are exposed to the breadth and depth of classical and contemporary knowledge in the component areas of the field while taking advantage of the finest things about Saint Mary's College (e.g., an interest in the student as a person and an emphasis on shared inquiry and critical thinking). Students select a concentration that fits best with their personal and professional goals: Sports Studies, Sports Management, or Fitness Management, and complete the program in 14 to 26 months.

Course Description:
KINES 371 Leadership and Governance in Sports Organizations (Spring)
This course provides a detailed understanding of the application of the general principles of management and leadership to the sports industry and the management of sports organizations. It provides an overview of the sports industry, the issues encountered by managers of sports organizations and how management techniques can be applied to effectively address these issues.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to: demonstrate knowledge of the context for situational leadership in sport organizations; understand leadership and the ways in which it is unique in the sport industry; critically evaluate the current challenges and issues relating to leadership in sport; understand governance and how it functions in different sectors of sport (e.g., professional, collegiate, interscholastic); formulate a personal leadership development plan; and apply critical thinking skills relating to the knowledge gained in this course to class discussions, assignments, and examinations

Please note that courses will be assigned to current qualified adjunct faculty members who apply during the first 14 days of the posting in the following order:
1. Seniority of those who have taught the course previously up to their average.
2. Seniority of those who have not taught the course up to their average.
3. Seniority rotation above their average up to seven (7) course values.

If the course is not assigned to a current qualified adjunct faculty member under the process above, it may be assigned to a new hire after the 14 day period for current adjunct faculty members to apply has elapsed.



Experience and Qualifications:

The successful candidate will hold a terminal degree in Sports Management or a closely related field and have a recent publication record in the field, or a Master's degree in Sports Management or a closely related field and have at least five years of current, relevant professional experience. Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the graduate level as evidenced by recent course evaluations is preferred. Candidates should be comfortable supporting and working in a multi-cultural environment.
