Responsibilities:

The Benefits Specialist assists the Benefits Director in coordinating the College's benefit programs. This position provides key administrative support to the Saint Mary's College community through onboarding and offboarding employees and by identifying, communicating, and resolving benefit issues within a framework of established policies and procedures.

  1. Provide administrative support to the Director of Benefits and Sr. Benefit Analyst. Assists new and current employees by describing benefit options and assists with Benefit Orientations. Enrolls and makes changes to coverage based on approved qualifying events. Provides a high level of customer service to employees and outside benefit plan administrators in person, via telephone and email. Provides HR support as requested and works in a collaborative and culturally diverse environment.
  2. Demonstrates knowledge of Colleague and processing systems. Enters, retrieves, and corrects data in Colleague. High level of accuracy required due to data entry impact on Payroll. Will assist in the set up, deployment, and integration of any new benefit admin systems. Develops reports as needed in Informer. Utilizes Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
  3. Assists with monthly reconciliation of benefit invoices that total $11M annually. Audits benefit vendors' invoices for more than 600 employees in 15+ different plans ensuring accruacy and timely payment. Works with vendors to resolve employee benefit problems and discrepancies in billing.
  4. Assists Sr. Benefit Analyst with processing of workers' compensation claims. Follows department procedures when processing claims; responds quickly to work related injuries and adheres to compliance requirements. Reports all injuries to the HR Director of Benefits.
  5. Professional Development: Attends workshops and meetings for professional development and coordinates and participates in campus events.
  6. Assists with coordination of Open Enrollment. Coordinates timelines and production of Open Enrollment materials/website with the HR Benefits Team and benefit broker. First point of contact in assisting current employees in making changes to existing coverage or processing new enrollments. Ensures these changes are processed correctly in Colleague and the carrier portals.



Experience and Qualifications:

Education:
Required: BA/BS
Preferred: BA in Human Resources

Experience:
3 years

Skills/Abilities:
Experience working with an HRIS system/database, Microsoft Word and Excel; Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and customer service.?
