Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of Student Involvement and Leadership, the Assistant Director is a member of the Student Involvement and Leadership administrative team, which is called to serve the educational, spiritual, cultural, social, and recreational needs of students. The Assistant Director develops, mentors, and supports student organizations. The Assistant Director is also primarily responsible for the planning, implementation, and development of student leadership programs which start with the emerging leaders program in the first year to promote social responsibility and accountability.

1. Coordinate Student Leadership Programs. Develop, plan, and implement student leadership programs including, but not limited to, an emerging leaders program for first-year students, recognition events, and workshops. Offer expertise and training to other campus departments in the area of student leadership. Host and coordinate Involvement Fairs and the Fall Leadership Summit.

2. Student Organization Support. Work to develop, mentor, and support student organizations through the development of their advisors, officers, and members. Provide ongoing support to Associated Students chartered organizations and provide guidance and supervision to the new organization process in the areas of group development, organization management, student leadership, and other functions necessary for student-run organizations. Advise groups and organization advisors on campus policies and practices as related to event planning and other organization functions by providing resources in the form of orientations, handbooks, and other written materials; workshops, training, and individual consultations as needed. Strategize to create a supportive core of community members to serve as mentors and advisors for organizations. Mentor and advise Associated Students Vice President for Student Organizations and the Vice President for Finance in the shared support of student organizations. With the SIL Director, development/training/education for advisors (faculty and staff).

3. Programming. Oversee development/refinement of SPOT 2.0, development and approval of campus programming initiatives, contract management, student organization event planning, and implementation of campus policies and procedures. Advise Campus Activities Board (CAB) in the implementation of campus-wide programming. Regularly assess the overall program and identify outcomes achieved that support leadership development or student engagement (in line with strategic plan and in consultation with Director of SIL).

4. Advise Associated Students Class Officers. Advise and mentor the Associated Students Vice President for Student Organizations and the Vice President for Finance. Advise and mentor Frosh and Sophomore class senate in their campus initiatives including fundraising efforts, identifying campus issues, and meeting student needs.

5. Responsible Host Training of Gaels Party Safe (GPS). Coordinate, implement and market the Responsible Host training of the GPS program for student leaders, student organizations, and individual students. Train trainers for implementation. Maintain an annual roster of trained Responsible Hosts. Work closely with campus partners such as Residential Experience, Sodexo, Public Safety, and Meetings, Events and Conference Services, in addition to Associated Students.

6.Collaboration. Collaborate with Student Life colleagues to enhance the student experience, in particular, a focus on the first-year experience. Represent SIL and Student Life by participating in campus-wide committees and initiatives as assigned.

7. ?Work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, and culturally diverse campus environment and develop effective relationships within the division of Student Life and with other areas of the College. Serve some responsibilities in the absence of the Director of SIL.
