Saint Mary's College of California invites applications for a visiting non-tenure track (at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank) faculty member in Business Law, beginning in July 2018.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The faculty member will teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Business Law beginning July 2018. Teaching may also include participation in college-wide programs such as Collegiate Seminar and January Term. The successful candidate will join a collegial community that values and supports cutting-edge research and scholarly contributions. Teaching assignments at Saint Mary's College of California include courses on the main campus in Moraga and may include teaching at off-site locations in San Ramon. All Saint Mary's faculty are expected to advise students and to contribute to the mission of the College, which is informed, animated, and expressed through its Catholic, Lasallian, and liberal arts traditions.

Saint Mary's faculty are expected to maintain an active scholarly agenda and demonstrate intellectual growth and significant achievement appropriate to their field. Faculty also contribute to the mission and serve the College and community in many ways, including academic advising, student and community outreach, participation in departmental and College-wide committees, and the development and assessment of the College's Core Curriculum. Faculty are also encouraged to teach in the College's Core Curriculum, January Term, and Collegiate Seminar programs.

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate must have a Juris Doctor (JD) or LLM degree from an ABA accredited institution. The candidate must demonstrate the ability or potential to conduct and publish high quality research in respected academic journals and to teach, advise, and mentor a culturally and educationally diverse student body, including undergraduate, graduate accounting, MBA, and Executive MBA students; appreciate and respect an inclusive learning/teaching environment and the students, staff, and faculty who comprise it and be willing to become a stakeholder in the Lasallian commitment to that environment; demonstrate commitment and success working in a diverse and multicultural community. A candidate should be familiar with topics frequently covered in business law courses including: civil procedure, contracts, torts, the Uniform Commercial Code (articles 2 and 9), business associations, and federal securities laws. However, diverse areas of interest are appreciated. In recent years, students have requested additional instruction in the regulatory environment of prescription drugs, antitrust laws, state securities law, intellectual property, and real estate. Candidates who also have demonstrated research or teaching interests in business law are highly encouraged to apply. Candidates with some background handling business law matters whether transaction or litigation matters are valued as well.

Successful candidates will also need to show how their teaching, research, and prior service reflect the core values and mission of Saint Mary's college.
