Assistant Professor - Health Care Ethics

The University of California, San Diego invites applications from outstanding candidates for TENURE TRACK faculty positions in Health Care Ethics.

These positions are part of a bold multi-discipline, multi-year initiative in practical ethics that spans the entire University. In this initiative, traditional normative ethical concerns are embedded in cross-disciplinary research areas such as the humanities, social sciences, physical sciences, biological sciences, geosciences, engineering, business, and medicine. Besides Health Care Ethics, there are at present three other separate areas within the overall initiative: (1) Social Impact of Science, Medicine, and Technology; (2) Environmental Justice; and (3) Business Ethics.

Each appointment will be made jointly between two divisions or schools in order to facilitate collaborations in new inter-disciplinary fields. These areas include the Divisions of Arts and Humanities, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, the School of Global Policy and Strategy, the Jacobs School of Engineering, Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Rady School of Management, and the School of Medicine.

The university is particularly interested in recruiting candidates who display the highest standards of excellence in research, teaching and professional activity in health care ethics. Successful applicants will be expected to help build a genuinely interdisciplinary and preeminent program in practical ethics, with a focus on health care ethics.

Applicants at the Assistant Professorial level must have PhD completed at the time of appointment and have demonstrated the potential to achieve scholarly excellence with interdisciplinary breadth. The preferred candidate will have demonstrated strong leadership and a commitment to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in an academic setting.

The level of appointment and salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on UC pay schedules.
