Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM; occasional early morning, evening and weekend hours; this is a temporary position to end on or before June 30, 2020 with a possibility of renewal on an annual basis if program needs exist.

About the Position:
The Veterans Resource Center at California State University, Fullerton provides comprehensive services to military-connected students that support personal, academic, and professional success. We continuously engage with our students to meet them wherever they are and to guide them along their path toward success. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Veterans Student Services Coordinator (Student Services Professional I). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the direct supervision of the Director of the Veterans Resource Center (VRC), the Veterans Student Services Coordinator will have a working knowledge of student veterans' and military-connected students' educational and social support needs, transitional issues, and university and community support services. Assists with the development and organization of existing programs and services, assists with general student advising by providing information regarding department and university requirements, policy, and procedures as well as implications of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or state benefit programs on their education pathway, provides educational presentations to campus and community partners, and be sensitive to potential problems so that assistance can be secured on matters with larger implications. Seeks out research on current issues as relates to military veterans and their families returning to college, and provides solution-oriented problem solving recommendations in needed areas. Assists with planning, developing, and implementing special events that will enhance student veteran and military-connected retention and graduation rates. Assists with the hiring, training and advising student assistants. Other duties as assigned.




Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or other job-related field. Specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior, as well as research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information. Foundational knowledge of the techniques and methods of interviewing. Ability to gather and analyze data. Ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations. Ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews. Ability to clearly express ideas and make recommendations. Ability to write clear and concise reports. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
