About the Position:

The Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs Operations department is driven by student success. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Lead Budget Specialist. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Lead Budget Specialist reports to the Senior Director of Academic Finances and Space Management and supports the Provost's Office with budget and finance operations. Assists with the development of Academic Unit fiscal year budgets and ensures compliance with fund designation and reporting unit limits. Independently researches, analyzes, monitors, and processes paperwork involving budget and procurement matters. Reviews and communicates budget status against budget goals to the Associate Vice President's (AVP) of Academic Units. Ensures the timely dissemination and collection of funds due to and from all sources to the programs and their operational units. Generates and disseminates monthly and quarterly budget reports. Assists with review of authorization of expenditures, procurement cards, and travel requests and reimbursements for all Academic Units. Monitors, reconciles and maintains operational expense and budget records including, but not limited to, general funds, state and auxiliary grants, philanthropic funds and one-time funding sources for various projects and programs. The Lead Budget Specialist works closely with the Provost's Office budget team to ensure a clean year-end close in accordance with University policies and procedures. The Lead Budget Specialist also works with accounting and procurement offices, and with AVP's of Academic Units and their administrative support coordinators and related personnel. Provides support and training to other budget staff on work-flow of budget processes. Reinforces consistency with the use of proper account coding to ensure data integrity. Communicates policy and procedural change to ensure other Academic Unit budget staff are kept informed. Ability to remain agile and acts as a leader of change and promotes and encourages others to adapt to adjustments that improve the flow of fiscal business operations. Other duties as assigned.




Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university and/or the equivalent training and administrative work experience involving the study, analysis, evaluation, development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices or programs PLUS four years of related experience. Working knowledge of and the ability to apply standard theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to the program and/or administrative specialty to develop conclusions and make recommendations. Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to the applicable program and/or administrative specialty. Working knowledge of operational and fiscal analysis and techniques. Ability to take initiative and plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved. Skilled in the research, development, and evaluation of policies and programs. Ability to collect, evaluate, and interpret data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations. Expertise in investigating and analyzing problems with broad administrative impact and implications. Ability to anticipate problems, address them proactively, and develop appropriate recommendations leading to solutions. Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret, organize, and present information and ideas in written or presentation form and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus. Ability to train others on new skills and procedures and provide lead work direction. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others.
