About the Position:
The department of Housing and Residential Engagement provides residence hall and apartment style living for approximately 2,000 students that is safe, clean and very convenient. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Facilities Worker I. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Facilities Worker I is a semi-skilled general facilities maintenance worker. Performs a variety of general and preventative maintenance and repair work that does not require journey-level skills. Independently performs a variety of semi-skilled facilities and systems maintenance functions or may work under the direction of journey-level crafts workers on complex assignments. Performs semi-skilled troubleshooting on building systems such as water, gas, air, and drainage. Performs maintenance and repairs on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, paint, carpentry, and locksmith components, equipment and systems. Troubleshoots and clears drains. Installs and repairs toilet and towel dispensers, soap dispensers, feminine dispensers, ceilings and tiles. Performs various woodcuts using a table saw, belt saw, skill saw and jigsaw. Responds to Facilities Operations service calls related to space changes, access and security issues, and other customer service needs. Performs semi-skilled installation of drywall, baseboards, chair-rail and drop ceilings. Performs other related duties as assigned at the direction of the Associate Director.



Essential Qualifications:
Any combination of experience and training equivalent to six months of experience as a trades assistant or laborer, or six months of hands-on experience in general facilities and systems maintenance and repair work. Knowledge and ability to properly and safely use hand and power tools common in the construction trade. Basic working knowledge of building codes, OSHA safety standards and safe work practices. Ability to operate light-duty trucks, forklifts and aerial work platforms is required. Ability to communicate effectively in English to understand and respond to written work orders and work with customers and other plant staff. Excellent customer service skills. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform heavy labor.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Special Working Conditions:
Regularly required to work in dirty and dusty conditions. Occasionally required to perform heavy manual labor. Will carry a Master key.
