Our fast-growing division of Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion, driven to be the standard of excellence, seeks a member of the executive team. This enthusiastic and innovative Chief of Operations will provide the entrepreneurial skills necessary to clearly position the first division of its kind in the CSU as the HR model for the 21st century. The COO's background must include outreach, marketing and communication strategy. This position will provide oversight of the Office of the VP operations, as well as financial and HR management for the division. This exciting position reports directly to the Vice President for Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion and promotes the view and philosophy of the Vice President which is aligned with the University's mission and strategic goals.


Reporting directly to the Vice President for Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion (HRDI), the Chief of Operations (COO) provides oversight of the Office of the Vice President's Operations as well as financial and human resources management for the division. The incumbent will promote the view and philosophy of the Vice President which is aligned with the University's mission and strategic goals. The Chief of Operations will assist the Vice President in the fulfillment of a wide variety of complex and highly sensitive executive duties. The scope and complexity of these duties require an individual whose primary knowledge, skills, and abilities include the exercise of personal initiative, independent judgment, and high emotional intelligence. The COO must have strong knowledge in the areas of finance, human resources as well as comprehensive project management experience. This knowledge will serve as the baseline upon which the incumbent will fulfill all assigned tasks and responsibilities. Possesses broadly delegated authority for administrative functions and is expected to exercise significant judgment in the development and implementation of divisional administrative policies and procedures relating to fiscal, personnel management, and safety issues. Provides leadership in the areas of division-wide projects, the divisional strategic planning process, divisional publications, as well as public relations efforts. Serves as the principal budget and personnel Officer for the Division of HRDI and ensures the Vice President is apprised on budget and personnel matters. Consults with executive management and administration on divisional strategy and accomplishing divisional objectives, as well as advises executive management on critical and sensitive issues. Provides leadership support and coordinates, prepares and submits required reports to the VP and other appropriate University Officials. Acts independently within functional and organizational guidelines and interprets university policy. The Chief of Operations performs the critical role of representing the Vice President and the Division of HRDI to various on-campus and off-campus constituents, internal committees, and community partners. The position also works collaboratively with other divisional leadership teams as well as with the HRDI senior leadership team. The COO should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity and kindness. The strong ability to communicate effectively with multiple and diverse constituents, and build effective working relationships. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited institution of higher education in management, organizational development, public administration, human resources, business administration, or in a related field. Minimum of five years of demonstrated proficiency in organizational strategy along with progressively responsible supervisory and/or management experience. Vast project management knowledge, skills and abilities. Possesses a strong entrepreneurial spirt. Experience in managing change within a large and diverse organization. Demonstrated knowledge of staff development models, concepts and implementation systems. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to exercise independent judgment with a knowledge of professional administrative procedures involving in-depth problem solving techniques.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Special Working Conditions:
The scope of responsibilities for this position includes the making or participating in the making of decisions that may have a material financial benefit on the incumbent. Therefore, you will be required to file an initial Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interests within thirty (30) days from date of hire and on an annual basis; and complete the CSU sponsored ethics on-line training within thirty (30) days of appointment, and at least once during each consecutive period of two calendar years following the appointment.
