Job Summary:
California State University, Fullerton is searching for a Carpenter. We are seeking individuals with carpentry skills who are friendly and reliable. The Carpenter should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the general supervision of the Supervising Carpenter or Facilities Projects Supervisor, the Carpenter performs a full range of skilled journey-level carpentry and related work. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Maintains a safe and clean work environment. Maintains records and retrieves data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. Provides instruction and lead direction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
A combination of progressively responsible training and experience demonstrating the achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to those acquired through the completion of a carpenters apprenticeship program. Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in both rough and finished carpentry. Thorough knowledge of the various types and grades of lumber, as well as hand and power carpentry tools. Thorough knowledge of applicable state safety codes and regulations pertaining to the carpentry trade, including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety for the State of California and California State Building Codes. Ability to build, install, and repair structural woodwork, flooring, ceilings, and cabinetry. Ability to operate and maintain hand and power carpentry tools. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications. Ability to recognize and select appropriate lumber types and grades, make rough sketches, and estimate the cost, time, and materials of carpentry projects. Ability to maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. Ability to prepare standard reports, provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants, and analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the position and perform arithmetic calculations required for the position.

Special Working Conditions:
Works on uneven surfaces, in and around construction sites, and on roofs and other elevated surfaces. Works with hazard containing materials, such as asbestos and lead. Will carry master keys.
