Asst Prof Nutrition and Neurodevelopment

Title:  Assistant Professor of Nutrition and Neurodevelopment. The Department of Nutrition in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Davis is recruiting a faculty member with a preferred emphasis on mechanisms of nutrition and environmental influences on brain development and function. This is an academic year (9-month), Assistant Professor tenure-track position with teaching, research, outreach/engagement and service responsibilities and includes the expectation that the appointee will conduct mission-oriented research and outreach/engagement of relevance to California communities and stakeholders, and the land-grant mission (http://caes.ucdavis.edu/research/aes ).

Responsibilities:

The Department of Nutrition is seeking applicants whose research focuses on the impact of maternal and child nutrition on brain development, cognition and function, using interventional and observational approaches in humans and animal models. The appointee is expected to establish a competitively funded research program to address critical or emerging issues in nutrition and development. The appointee will be responsible for teaching two undergraduate courses, such as Recommendations and Standards for Human Nutrition (NUT 111B) and/or an interdisciplinary course in nutrition and human development.  Contributions to graduate courses are expected. The candidate will participate in the interdepartmental Graduate Group in Nutritional Biology (GGNB) and be engaged in mentoring of graduate students, undergraduate student advising, and curricular development. Interdisciplinary work with Human Development faculty in the Department of Human Ecology is expected. This position is one of two in the departments of Nutrition and Human Ecology allocated to advance interdisciplinary approaches to the integrated field of nutrition, behavior and human development.  Participation in and development of outreach/engagement programs, and performance of departmental and university service is required. This position is expected to work with Cooperative Extension academics and appropriate stakeholders.

Qualifications: 

Ph.D. or equivalent degree in nutrition or a field related to nutrition. Post-doctoral experience is strongly preferred. Evidence of research excellence is expected. The candidate should have the ability to develop and instruct undergraduate and graduate courses and the ability to develop and conduct extramurally funded research in nutrition.

Commensurate with qualifications and experience within the Assistant Professor rank at the University of California.

Department and Campus:

The mission of the Department of Nutrition at UC Davis (http://nutrition.ucdavis.edu) focuses on the creation, development and distribution of basic and applied knowledge related to nutrition, with a scope extending from the molecular to the policy levels. Signature areas include cellular and integrative metabolism, developmental and life-span nutrition, and international and community nutrition with a focus on maternal and child health. Areas of programmatic focus are mechanisms and effects of foods and food components on health and disease risk; as well as implementation and evaluation of food-based interventions and education and their impact on individuals, society and policy.
