California State University, Dominguez Hills, was established in 1960 and is one of the 23 campuses that comprise The California State University system. CSU Dominguez Hills is an urban, comprehensive public university that serves a culturally rich, diverse student body of over 12,500 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Located on a 346-acre site in the South Bay portion of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, CSU Dominguez Hills has a highly pluralistic student body, which includes a significant number of non-traditional, working adult students as well as approximately 2,000 students enrolled in distance learning programs statewide. The University, with its five Academic Colleges, has more than 300 full-time faculty members and is situated in an area characterized by an extraordinary heterogeneity of people, and an extensive array of high technology industries and professional services.

Position Information:
This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.

Department: University Communications and Public Affairs

The Office of University Communications and Public Affairs builds public understanding, recognition and support for CSU Dominguez Hills by shaping the image and voice of the University through coordinated communications strategies and media relations that position the University as an important urban center for teaching and learning, research, scholarship, creative activity and service. University Communications functions as a full-service creative agency for institutional communications; print, Web, and electronic publications; marketing; and advertising.

Major Job Duties:
Under general direction of the Director of University Communications and Public Affairs, the Senior Writer/Editor helps to bring the mission of CSUDH and the voices of its faculty, students, alumni and staff to life. The position will play a key role in strategic communications for the university, helping to evolve and refine messaging in line with the university's mission and strategic plan. The position employs expert skill in writing a wide range of communications (web content, news releases, social media posts, feature profiles, marketing and advertising materials, high-level executive correspondences, speeches, and talking points) across print and digital media platforms to create engaging and compelling content that successfully captures the appropriate voice and conveys subject matter expertise. In addition, the position will serve as editor of the CSUDHs university magazine.

Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experienced writer as evidenced by clips or portfolio of past professional work
Excels at adapting copy based on the audience and platform
Expert grammar, editing, and proofreading skills
Communications expert, with knowledge and proficiency in multiple media
Experience in using electronic media tools, such as content management systems
Effective interpersonal communications skills
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
Ability to juggle multiple assignments under shifting and tight deadlines.

Required Education:
Bachelors degree in English, journalism, composition, communications, and/or equivalent experience. Master's degree in English or communications preferred.

Required Experience:
Five or more years of professional writing and editing experience, and/or writing for the web. Preferred: two or more years working in higher education communication

Salary Range:
The salary range for this classification is: $4,104 - $7,209 monthly.
The maximum salary budgeted for this position by the department is $6,250 monthly.
