California State University Dominguez Hills was established in 1960 and is one of the 23 campuses that comprise The California State University System. CSU Dominguez Hills is an urban, comprehensive public university that serves a culturally rich, diverse student body of approximately 14,000 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Located on a 346-acre site in the South Bay portion of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, CSU Dominguez Hills has a highly pluralistic student body, which includes a significant number of non-traditional, working adult students as well as approximately 2,000 students enrolled in distance learning programs statewide. The University, with its five Academic Colleges, has more than 300 full-time faculty members and is situated in an area characterized by an extraordinary heterogeneity of people, and an extensive array of high technology industries and professional services.

Conditions of Employment:

Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Due to the nature of this position, the successful candidate is required to complete a background check prior to assuming this position.

Position Information:

This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.

Department: University Police, Parking and Transportation Services

The California State University, Dominguez Hills Police Department provides a safe campus conducive to education for the University's students, faculty, staff, and visitors. University Police accomplishes its mission by encouraging community awareness and providing proactive service in a fair, sensitive, and professional manner in support of the University's mission. The University Police Department enforces all laws of the state of California and educate the community on safety and risk avoidance practices.

Major Job Duties:

Under general supervision, the Parking Officer patrols parking lots, roadways and parking areas, enforcing CSUDH parking regulations by issuing warnings (verbal/written) and citations for improper parking or for other standing violations involving vehicles parked at CSUDH. This position assists in the repair and/or replacement of disabled parking meters and dispensers, as well as in the collection and deposit of cash and coins from daily permit machines and meters. The incumbent monitors parking lots as a preventable measure to deter crime, and is expected to work independently while writing citations and responding to calls for services.

Qualifications:

-Working knowledge of applicable procedures and regulations related to parking and traffic control.
-Thorough knowledge of campus layout and parking facilities.
-Ability to act and resolve parking and traffic problems.
-Working knowledge of parking-related equipment.
-Ability to write standard parking incident reports in a clear and concise manner.
-Working knowledge of applicable radio systems.
-Ability to observe and recall details and incidents, as well as detect and respond appropriately to potentially hazardous situations.
-Ability to effectively interact with a wide range of individuals including the campus community and the general public.
-Ability to appropriately handle parking monies received.

Specialized Materials: The position activities may require the use of the following equipment, machinery, tools, vehicles or office equipment:
Hand held citation devices, email, printer, copier, multi-line telephones, vehicles (electric and gasoline powered). Two-way radio.

Certification: Valid Driver's License

Experience and Education:

Required Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree or additional course work in Administration of Justice.

Required Experience: Three to six months related experience.

Preferred Experience: Demonstrated/documented experience interacting with the public in a service-driven environment. Full-time paid parking enforcement experience with a college, university, municipal, or county law enforcement agency. Demonstrated parking enforcement or Community Service Officer ("CSO") experience.

Salary Range: The salary range for this classification is: $2,489 - $4,038 monthly.
