California State University, Dominguez Hills, was established in 1960 and is one of the 23 campuses that comprise The California State University system. Conditions of Employment:
The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Due to the nature of this position, the successful candidate is required to complete a background check prior to assuming this position.

Position Information:

This is a Part time, (temporary) position.

** Successful candidates in these temporary appointments may be appointed from a few days up to one year depending on the assignment. Temporary appointments must end on or before the end of the fiscal year (June 30th of the following year), with the possibility of renewal.

Department: Chemistry Department - The College of Natural and Behavioral Science

The College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences is one of four main instructional units of the university. The Chemistry Department is an academic unit within the College with programs designed to provide students with intensive, progressive and balanced learning experiences in the physical sciences with several offerings: undergraduate programs and minor programs, and graduate programs.

Major Job Duties:
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for overseeing the preparation of lower and upper division chemistry labs which include: ordering and organizing materials, preparing chemicals and materials for lecture demonstrations, setting up equipment and displays, cleaning and maintaining of lab and rooms, maintaining department computer labs and overseeing lab safety equipment.

Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge:
- Knowledge of the principles and methods related to performing support services such as chemical nomenclature and solution preparation and standardization.
- Knowledge of the principles, information, methods and techniques related to discipline to which assigned.
-Knowledge of the materials and supplies related to the curriculum, their characteristics and uses.

Ability:
- Ability to plan, organize and schedule work.
- Ability to operate and repair technical and scientific equipment. Familiar with basic laboratory safety regulations.
- Ability to coordinate support service to meet a comprehensive variety of needs.
- Ability to develop off-campus resources related to the discipline for obtaining material or equipment.
- Superior communication skills to effectively and professionally communicate with staff, students, professionals and the public.
- Demonstrated skill in organization of tasks, documents and materials.
- Demonstrated skills using Windows and Macintosh operating systems and commonly used office applications (MS Office, Internet, etc.)

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience with training, and evaluating personnel
- Knowledge of the applicable CSU policies and procedures related to this job
- Interest and willingness to assist the faculty and Department Chair in grant funding proposals
- Ability to determine methods to meet program goals
- Ability to use good judgment in the development of policies and procedures related to issues not covered by current policies
- Ability to work in humid, hazardous, hot, cold, dry and wet environments
- Ability to work a varied schedule or hours as needed including weekends
- Ability to safely move and lift materials, equipment and tools weighing up to 50 lbs.

Certification: Valid Driver's License

Experience and Education:

Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Education: BA/BS in Chemistry - OR Equivalent to one year of experience in ordering, purchasing, and accounting or in office work related to technical materials, supplies, or equipment or in an office which provided similar services to a technical function or unit may be substituted for six months of the experience.

Required Experience: Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to the area to which assigned.
or
Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
or
Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

Preferred Experience: Experience in a University Chemistry Education Department or Program

Salary Range:

The salary range for this classification is: $3,748 - $6,204 monthly
