California State University Dominguez Hills was established in 1960 and is one of the 23 campuses that comprise The California State University System. CSU Dominguez Hills is an urban, comprehensive public university that serves a culturally rich, diverse student body of approximately 14,000 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Located on a 346-acre site in the South Bay portion of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, CSU Dominguez Hills has a highly pluralistic student body, which includes a significant number of non-traditional, working adult students as well as approximately 2,000 students enrolled in distance learning programs statewide. The University, with its five Academic Colleges, has more than 300 full-time faculty members and is situated in an area characterized by an extraordinary heterogeneity of people, and an extensive array of high technology industries and professional services.

Conditions of Employment:
The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

Position Information:
This is a full-time management (MPP) position. MPP employees serve at the pleasure of the campus President. MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status.

This position is a "designated position" in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.

Department: University Advisement Center

The University Advisement Center (UAC) is comprised of University Advisement Requirement functions. The UAC is responsible for overall advising of freshmen, transfers, undeclared, pre-majors and designated lower division declared majors, as well as, General Education and other graduation requirements for all undergraduate students. Additionally, the UAC is responsible for providing interventions for students on probation, returning students, and the delivery of first year students mandatory 4 points of advising, junior level interventions and the tracking of graduation candidates.

Major Job Duties:
Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President of Retention, University Academic Advising and Learning, the Director of University Advisement Center will manage day-to-day supervision, training and evaluation of academic advisors assigned to the University Advisement Center to increase retention and graduation rates. The incumbent provides operational support in the development, implementation and assessment for all comprehensive-advising programs hosted by the department and support areas, including Dominguez Hills First Year Experience, Dominguez Hills Transfer Learning Community, Toro Ambassadors, Charge on to Graduation junior intervention, Freshman Advising for Successful Toros (FAST), Toro Explore, Strategies Toward Educational Progress and Success (STEPS), Returning Toros Program, among others; are innovative and actively engage the CSUDH student. While the overall purpose of each program is to facilitate graduation, the designs of the individualized programs are specific to the intended population and to support the unique needs of students. Populations include, but are not limited to students on academic probation; transfer students; first time freshmen; undeclared students; academically disqualified students; and all undergraduate students seeking advisement about the general education curriculum, pre-major and graduation requirements. Develops and maintains on-line, written materials and publications to advise Students, Faculty, Staff Advisors and departments on the general education requirements and other related academic policies and requirements for graduation. Leads the UAC team in preparing evidence based innovative intervention designed to engage our valued student body. Utilizes a collaborative university wide perspective to troubleshoot and forecast implications of potential policy changes in academic and/or graduation requirements. Coordinates advising services at the university level to ensure consistent, transparent and accurate information is disseminated to Advisors, Assistant Deans, Associate Deans, Faculty and Chairs to create a preventative and consistent advising curriculum campus wide to help facilitate graduation. Provides leadership and direction on CMS, EAB implementation. Provides professional development opportunities to the academic advisement team. Provides weekly reports to the Associate Vice President of University Academic Advising in regards to implementation status of goals and student advising learning outcomes

Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of organizational and personnel management;
Knowledge of academic advising methods and principles;
Knowledge of university testing programs and requirements;
Knowledge of individual and group behavior and conflict resolution techniques;

Abilities to:
Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff, and students;
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community;
Ability to determine goals and establish objectives to meet the services rendered by the University Advisement Center;
Ability to collect, record, and interpret data as it relates to the University Advisement Center, advising methods, and the student population;
Ability to develop, implement and assess sustainable innovative new programs or initiatives;
Ability to anticipate problems and address them proactively;
Ability to use a solution centered, proactive, approach;
Ability to speak effectively with individuals or groups regarding the University and its policies, procedures and processes when related to the University Advisement Center;

Skill in:
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;
Demonstrated commitment to the success of students;
Demonstrated skills in supervision/management;

Experience and Education:
Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education: Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in a job related field.

Required Experience: Minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years of experience as a manager or director in a college or university environment.

Salary Range:
Salary is commensurate with experience.
