This is a full-time, temporary position.

** Successful candidates in these temporary appointments may be appointed from a few days up to one year depending on the assignment. Temporary appointments must end on or before the end of the fiscal year (June 30th of the following year), with the possibility of renewal.

Salary Range and Max Salary

The salary range for this classification is: $4,554 - $6,488 monthly.

Conditions of Employment

Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Department: Career Center
The Career Center is one of the departments in Student Affairs. The department is responsible for career counseling, and internship and employment services. The Career Center assists students and alumni to discover their passions and make informed career and educational decisions through a variety of functions including career counseling and career development workshops, employer networking and mentoring events, job search readiness workshops, employment fairs, and on-campus interviews. It also assists employers in meeting their college relations and staffing goals. To accomplish its purpose, the Career Center (a) partners with students and alumni to facilitate lifelong career development through self-awareness, experiential learning, career decision-making, and job search readiness programs; (b) collaborates with university faculty, administrators and staff to connect student learning with the world of work; and (c) forges strong relationships with leading employers and organizations throughout Southern California and the United States.

Major Duties
Under general direction of the Career Center Interim Associate Director, the Career Coach, will support campus-wide efforts to assist students in integrating career, academic, and personal development plans. This position is responsible for supporting two of our six academic colleges, College of Arts and Humanities, and the general student body to develop a career success institute and share critical information about the employment market, job search techniques, the career development process, and best practices in supporting student career success with faculty, staff, and student leaders. This will include employer recruitment and networking, developing and delivering a series of workshops, presentations, programs and individual consultations and initiatives to support partners across campus. Provide training and development around career and professional success initiatives.

Position will also provide direct career and job search counseling and advisement to students, alumni and groups on a walk-in and scheduled basis; advises and counsels students and alumni with graduate and professional school research and application packets; administers and interprets career assessment instruments; organizes and delivers Career, Major, and Graduate and Professional school workshops; develops publications, and leads and plans a series of large scale career events, job fairs, and programs, and performs other duties and office projects as necessary.

Qualifications

Required Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.

Required Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.

A masters degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

Responsibilities

40% - Responsible to develop a Career Success Institute for one of the six academic colleges, along with campus affinity groups, to share critical information about the employment market, job search techniques, the career and professional development process, and best practices in supporting student career success with faculty, staff and students.
- Serve as a lead in the development of new programs and initiatives that support campus wide efforts to help students integrate high impact practices into students career, personal, and academic plans.
- Develop, implement, and deliver workshops, presentations, programs, individual consultations, and initiatives to support student success and learning.
- Develop other electronic and printed tools geared toward faculty, staff, students, and various constituents to help support student career and professional success.
- Conduct and develop student direct contact opportunities individually, by group, department, or other campus affiliations to discuss career and professional development plans, goals, and opportunities.

20% - Responsible for employer recruitment and networking:
- Conduct employer site visits locally and regionally
- Attend employer recruitment events and programs to support part-time, internship, and full-time CSUDH hires
- Develop employers to support high impact learning in the colleges and the successful transition to job and internship opportunities
- Maintain and develop employer contacts and approvals on CSUDH Handshake

20% - Coordinate major career events, workshops and programming:
- Coordinate event logistics including daily communication with clients, software information technology, managing event schedule, reservations, set-up, directional signage, crowd control, parking, food services, room reservations, audio visual needs, general supplies, office services, staffing needs, and clean-up.
- Coordinate and track candidate and employer registrations for all major events, and specialized programming.
- Maintain and manipulate numerous complex recruiter/employers databases for use throughout the year.
- Maintain sole responsibility for receipt, verification, and deposit of registration and sponsorship fees, in collaboration with the Lead Administrative Analyst.
- Reconcile payment discrepancies and resolve employer inquiries.
- Oversee specialized event software to enhance events and programming.
- Expedite and ensure timely collections of outstanding invoices.
- Communicate with recruiters by phone and email.
- Maintain an accurate employer/client database in CSUDH Handshake.
- Track and maintain data related to employer and student learning outcomes, provide daily/weekly/monthly statistics, provide year comparisons, info graphics, and related documentation to support events and workshops. Draft and edit quantitative and qualitative reports related to this area of development.
- Develop marketing and programming to support events and programs.

10% - Assessment, Data, and Analytics
- Develop and maintain weekly, monthly, semester, and yearly Career Center statistics related to responsibilities and program needs.
- Develop learning outcomes and measurements to assess learning outcomes for Career Center.
- Create and develop goals and measurements to support the University Strategic plan related to Career Center outcomes.
- Develop and support University Outcomes Survey measuring student success at and beyond graduation.
- Develop presentations and related infographics to demonstrate Career Center learning outcomes through programming and other career and professional related opportunities.
- Track and assess new hire data
- Track and support internship documentation for not for credit or academic bearing internships.

10% - Job duties as assigned.
