The Department of Communications at California State University, Dominguez Hills invites applications for a Tenure-track position at the rank of Academic Year Assistant Professor with the appointment starting in Fall 2019.

Journalism Degree Program
The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism degree program is dedicated to high standards in journalistic practices, skills, and specializations with a strong focus on analytical reasoning, critical thinking and problem solving. Through innovated teaching practices, the program provides a broad-based curriculum designed to promote news and information literacy; proficiency in the various journalistic forms and styles; an understanding of the new media landscape; and information dissemination practices through contemporary and emerging media tools. The Position
Tenure-track faculty in the Journalism program teach three to four courses per semester, engage in scholarly and/or professional activities, and perform service to the department, college, university and the community. This position may require a higher level of service than other tenure-track positions, contingent upon the candidate's highest degree awarded and professional activity work.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to teaching a diverse student population, and have the ability to teach Spanish-language journalism courses. Further, the ideal candidate will posses the mentoring skills to advise the student newspaper and other journalism products, advise the journalism club and engage in other extra-curricular activities. Engagement in student advising, service, and professional practice is also required. The ideal candidate will possess a master's degree and extensive professional experience utilizing multimedia reporting tools. However, we will also consider candidates with a Ph.D. in Communications or related field and at least three years of professional journalism experience. Professional experience in Spanish-language journalism is preferred.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will possess the teaching and professional experience needed to teach three to four courses per semester in the Journalism degree program. An outstanding and ongoing record of professional journalism activities and/or scholarship will be expected. Additional duties include advising the student news products, student advising, and significant service at the department, college, and university levels.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
A record of at least three years' professional practice in convergent journalism, broadcast journalism, or media management utilizing modern multimedia reporting tools.
A master's degree in journalism, mass communication or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
English and Spanish language proficiency
Demonstrated ability to advance the mission of the Journalism program as expressed in the mission statement.
Experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
Preferred /Desired Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Mass Communications or a closely related field is preferred but not required.
Professional Spanish-language journalism experience utilizing modern multimedia reporting tools is strongly desired.

CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
