The faculty of Liberal Studies in the College of Education at California State University Dominguez Hills invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor (Tenure Track) in the Department of Liberal Studies.

Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be passionate about preparing the next generation of social justice educators, particularly to develop the knowledge and skills of culturally and linguistically diverse undergraduates and heritage language learners.
Duties include:
Teaching courses in the Liberal Studies Department including Introduction to Teaching, Early Fieldwork Experience, and the Senior Seminar in Liberal Studies as well as courses based on expertise such as Engineering and the Arts, California Experience (CA History), Child and Adolescent Development, and Senior Capstone;
Engaging in appropriate scholarly research and publications in refereed journals;
Advising students in the Liberal Studies Department;
Assisting the department with administrative and/or committee work;
Providing service at the college and university level;
Participating in and expanding partnerships with community colleges, PK-12 schools, and departments across campus.

The Department of Liberal Studies, College of Education
Liberal Studies is an interdisciplinary major in the College of Education leading to a Bachelor of Arts and is a California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) approved Elementary Subject Matter Program. The major is designed to provide a broad undergraduate liberal arts education, as well elementary subject matter content to students interested in teaching elementary school or special education.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Doctoral degree in education or closely related field of study from an accredited institution of higher education by date of appointment with a strong background in at least one of the following: elementary science or STEAM, California history, multicultural or psychological foundations; or related areas that pertain to school climate and learning in diverse classrooms or high-needs schools.
Experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
Research agenda or demonstrated scholarly work in area of specialization.
Three or more years of successful K-8 teaching in urban school environments with linguistically, culturally, and economically diverse students.
Commitment to urban education, diversity, inclusion, and student academic and social excellence.
Evidence of exemplary teaching in K-8 school and/or university settings.
Demonstrated ability to use a variety of instructional methodologies.
Willingness and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications
Successful experience in teaching/supporting the academic reading and writing skills of English learners and first generation college students.
Knowledge and successful integration of technology in planning and teaching.
Knowledge of inquiry or problem-based learning approaches.
Knowledge of theories about teaching for equity and social justice and ability to integrate these concepts into content-specific courses.
Bilingual (Spanish language fluency)
