(Appointments are normally made at the beginning of the salary range.) These are a full-time, benefited, 11/12 pay plan (work 11 months with pay and benefits over 12), probationary positions in the Cross-cultural Centers for Academic Excellence.

Position Summary: These are 2 new positions in the Cross-cultural Centers for Academic Excellence. For these positions, we are seeking visionary leaders who understand the challenges of historically underrepresented and/or first generation students. The Coordinators will create and promote an inclusive culture for student success while providing the inspiration, vision, mentoring, and direction needed to assist students in achieving their personal, academic, and professional goals. The Cross-cultural Centers for Academic Excellence (CCAE) are a new initiative at Humboldt State University (HSU). Established by the Office of Retention and Inclusive Student Success (RISS), these Centers are committed to supporting the retention and academic success of historically underrepresented students by providing academic mentoring and support; facilitating opportunities for student faculty engagement; collaborating with other programs in developing culturally relevant social engagement activities, leadership development, exploration of identity and referral to appropriate campus and community resources. Currently, there are three well-established Centers: the Native American Center for Academic Excellence/ITEPP, the Center for Academic Excellence in STEM; and the Multicultural Center.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead Work
The Center Coordinators will be responsible for coordinating the Center’s operations and academic success strategies, facilitating and developing leadership development activities, and program assessment. The Coordinators will collaborate closely with the Coordinators and Directors of the other Cross-cultural Centers for Academic Excellence to ensure the achievement of de- sired student learning outcomes. The Coordinators will submit program reviews, and will conduct assessments for quality improvement. The Coordinators will serve the diverse needs of the university community and will participate on appropriate university committees to foster an institutional climate supportive of the success of African-American/Latino/a students. The Coordinators will provide supervision for student assistants.

Academic Mentoring and Retention Support
The Center Coordinators will design, implement and evaluate academic success, programs, workshops, presentations and other activities that provide academic support for students. The Coordinators will develop and facilitate opportunities for student faculty engagement in the Center and around campus. The Coordinators will provide academic mentoring and guidance for stu- dents participating in the Center.

Culturally Relevant Social Integration and Student Success Programming
The Coordinators will work closely with the Multicultural Center in developing co-curricular programs to enhance students’ personal, socio-cultural and professional development and growth. The coordinators will develop, implement and refine pro- gram activities with an emphasis on academics, career, and personal planning and development, transition issues, time management and effective communication. The Coordinators will participate in local, regional, state and national organizations on student success and stay current on educational trends, studies and best practices on retention/completion strategies for African- American/Latino/a students. The Coordinators will be responsible for raising awareness about and educating students on new opportunities, resources, programs, policies and procedures at Humboldt State University. The Coordinators will promote student participation in sponsored events and activities designed to enrich and enhance their personal and social well-being.

Campus Resources and Outreach Support
Lead efforts to promote resources and outreach with other units at Humboldt State University, including the Learning Center, Academic and Career Advising Center, Educational Opportunity Program, and Admissions. Will collaborate with academic partner units on retention strategies, and serve as a resource within the community, including other campus offices/departments. The Coordinators will develop an ongoing relationship with African-American/Latino/a student association leaders and with campus faculty and staff.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study and 2 years demonstrated professional experience in a college level student services program or related field. A Master’s degree may substitute for 1 year of experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent oral and written communication skills; thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; and excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills necessary for communication via phone, email and in person. Requires the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and the general public, and perform duties with tact and diplomacy. Requires excellent customer service skills. Ability to respond to routine inquiries and explain standard policies and procedures in a professional manner. Must be able to exercise appropriate judgment and discretion, and maintain confidentiality. Ability to work with minimum supervision. Must be self- motivated, detail-oriented, reliable, and work with both accuracy and speed. Ability to plan, organize, and perform day-to -day and medium-range activities. Ability to work in a climate characterized by frequent interruptions, shifting priorities, and the need to balance a multitude of tasks.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in a related field of study, demonstrated experience and effectiveness working with African-American/Latino/a students in a higher education setting , and experience in developing culturally relevant pro- grams that support African-American/Latino/a student retention in higher education.
