Employment Opportunity

Cabrillo College is seeking a collaborative and dynamic leader to fill the role of Director of the Adult Education Block Grant (AEBG). Reporting to the AEBG Board, the director will have the opportunity to bring together educators across the county to develop and expand integrated pathways for adult learning. The currently advertised fulltime Director of AEBG is responsible for planning, reporting, facilitating instructional activities and services for AEBG.

Examples of Duties

  • Provides leadership and long-range planning for program development in accordance with appropriate regulations and guidelines
  • Coordinates and participates in curriculum development and/or modification for new and existing programs; develops and integrates related outcomes
  • Applies and explains applicable Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations; including applicable sections of the California Education Code and Title V of the California Code of Regulations
  • Prepares and submits the annual budget, data reports, and other required AEBG submissions and associated processes; is the direct manager of the budget
  • Coordinates the tracking and collecting of student data and outcomes, including student enrollment, progress, and completion
  • Assists with or acts as liaison for registration of students moving from adult education to the community college
  • Works with the adult education sites on program planning, resource management, and metric evaluation
  • Serves on all AEBG committees including steering committee and working committee's consortium
  • Assists with the development and implementation of the non-credit instructional curricula as it pertains to seamless transition of adult education students to college
  • Attends and reports back to the Santa Cruz County AEBG consortium information based on workshops and webinars pertinent to the grant
  • Helps plan and coordinate professional development opportunities for faculty, staff, and administrators
  • Provides guidance in adult learner assessment, using tools like Comprehensive Adult Assessment Systems (CASAS)
  • Meets with community leaders as needed to represent AEBG and partnerships related to continuing education programs and services
  • Prepares and completes infrastructure recommendations for consortium efficiencies and improvements including but not limited to by-laws and other governance regulations
  • Uses word processing equipment and prepares reports using computer and various software applications for the AEBG project
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned


Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND approximately three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in administering and/or supervising adult education programs which provides the necessary knowledge and skills to support the AEBG project.

Desirable:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Courses or experience with English Language Learners or English-as-a-Second-Language instruction
  • Higher education or high school administrative experience
  • Teaching experience
Knowledge of:
  • Managerial principles and practices
  • Program evaluation principles, practices and methodologies
  • Student assessment and placement practices, methods, and tools in adult education, higher education, and workforce development contexts
  • Statewide AEBG education, legislative issues and compliance
  • Statewide AEBG grant application, submission and evaluation processes
  • Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations
  • Best practice budgeting principles and processes
  • Grant applications and grant supervision
  • Job training, WIOA, CalWORKs, and adult basic education programs as necessary to the completion of the AEBG grant and work plan requirements
Ability to:
  • Develop and administer survey; collate and summarize program goals, objectives, and procedures
  • Collaborate with a variety of groups and educational leadership in order to complete the goals of the work plan
  • Build effective teams from diverse personnel and work cooperatively with others
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understand the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the community
  • Guide assessment and share findings for continuous improvement of programs and services
  • Analyze and troubleshoot difficult situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
  • Monitor and review expenditures both for fiscal efficiency and for grant-supported resource allocation
  • Maintain detailed records and prepare reports, proposals, policies and programs
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Effectively respond to situations and/or incidents using sound judgment and decision-making skills
  • Interpret, apply and explain applicable Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations; including applicable sections of the California Education Code and Title V of the California Code of Regulations
  • Compile, organize and interpret complex data and information from a variety of sources
  • Utilize a computer and related software applications
  • Work independently with little direction
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
Licensing and other requirements
  • Possession of and ability to maintain a valid California driver's license and a safe driving record during the course of employment.
  • Assignment may include evenings and/or weekends as needed


Additional Information

Salary: Full-time categorically-funded management assignment (225-day work year), 12 months per year, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with evenings and/or weekends as needed. Current eight-step schedule ranges from $6,629 to $9,328. Classified administrators are required to join the Public Employee's Retirement System (PERS) and as such must contribute up to 7% of their monthly salary to PERS on a pre-tax basis.

Cabrillo College currently provides a benefit stipend for medical, dental, life and long-term disability insurance for employees and eligible dependents.
