Purpose of Position:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and Dean of Students, the Associate Dean of Students supports the University of Arizona’s efforts toward building and sustaining a diverse and culturally vibrant campus, which fosters a pluralistic learning environment and a sense of belonging for students.

The Associate Dean of Students works in collaboration with Student Affairs and Enrollment Management leadership to create and advance a strategic vision, and implement programs and activities that advances campus inquiry and engagement with issues of diversity, identity, culture and social justice.

More specifically, the Associate Dean of Students is responsible for the design, implementation and assessment of social justice and diversity education curricula and skill development; purposeful and structured outreach and engagement of recognized culturally-based student organizations; programs and services that positively impact campus climate for underrepresented and marginalized student populations; and activities and experiences that support the development of both human and financial resources within the department.  The Associate Dean partners with colleagues to support and enhance the retention and graduation efforts of the institution.

The Associate Dean provides vision, leadership, and supervision of six Program Directors who oversee LGBTQ Affairs, the Women’s Resource Center, African American Student Affairs, Asian Pacific American Student Affairs, Chicano/Hispano Student Affairs, and Native American Student Affairs, and a Coordinator who facilitates collaborative initiatives across all Centers and the campus community.
