Assistant Professor in American Jewish Literature

The Department of English at Arizona State University-Tempe invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in American Jewish Literature with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2016. Interest in other cultural forms, such as theatre, film, television or digital media is desired. Comparative and transnational perspectives are welcome. The successful candidate will be a member of the Department of English and the interdisciplinary Center for Jewish Studies. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research publishable in top tier academic journals, teach undergraduate and graduate students in the area of American Jewish Literature, and engage in professional, university, and community service as appropriate.

Required qualifications include 1) completed PhD in English, Jewish Studies, American Studies, Comparative Literature, or a related academic field from an accredited institution by the time of appointment; 2) record of college-level teaching; 3) active research agenda leading to publication; 4)demonstrated expertise in twentieth-century American Jewish cultural productions; 5) research agenda that locates Jewish literature in a larger cultural context.

Desired qualifications include 1) knowledge of Yiddish, Hebrew, or another relevant language; 2) ability to connect Jewish literature to other cultural forms; 3) comparative, transnational, or interdisciplinary approaches; 4)research focus in twenty-first century Jewish literature, 5)publications in the field.
