Summary of Job Duties
The Service Assistant - Custodial is responsible for general cleaning of areas in and around office buildings and laboratories, conference rooms, building common areas, grounds around these buildings and other areas as required. The job duties will include vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting, and emptying small office trash cans as well as large trash cans. This position will be responsible for using carpet and floor cleaning equipment. The Service Assistant will be responsible for cleaning commodes, sinks, water fountains, etc. This position will also be responsible for snow/ice removal during winter months.
This position will have a regular defined work schedule; however, on occasional event days this position will adjust work hours to fit the event.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job function of this job, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Preferred Qualifications
At least one year of custodial work experience in a commercial/corporate industry
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques
Knowledge of cleaning equipment operation and maintenance
Ability to follow instructions and perform repetitive manual work
Ability to use cleansers and other agents
Ability to clean floors and furniture
Ability to use housekeeping cleaning supplies and equipment
Ability to work independently without close supervision
Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions
Ability to perform multiple tasks and to prioritize assignments
Ability to perform repetitive manual work
Ability to do required lifting (up to 50 lbs)

Physical Conditions

One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation., The employee is subject to work in close quarters (i.e. narrow aisles, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small enclosed rooms, sewage and line pipes) and other areas that could cause claustrophobia., The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
