About the College/Department
The Arkansas Alumni Association, Inc. is part of the Division of University Advancement. Its mission is to connect and serve the University of Arkansas family. While the Association works with alumni throughout the work, it also has a student component - the Student Alumni Association.
The AAA believes that the membership marketing intern will aid the staff in furthering the goals and objectives of membership program, the association and university advancement by supporting the Director of Alumni Services in effectively recruiting and cultivating alumni & friends while gaining valuable relevant experience.

Summary of Job Duties
The Marketing and Communications Intern will be provided with ongoing informal feedback and a formal performance evaluation twice within the assigned employment period.
Duties will include:
  • Assist with research for VIPerks program utilizing benchmark institutions & provide recommendations for the young alumni segment from the results
  • Maintain an archive of membership marketing collateral
  • Research and writing class notes for the Senior Walk Section of Arkansas magazine, exclusively for members of the Arkansas Alumni Association
  • Writing profiles for print and electronic communications to share the stories of alumni and students
The student will obtain an understanding of alumni relations and higher education, while acquiring a portfolio of marketing collateral, and interacting with alumni, fellow students, university faculty & staff, and community leaders. The student is expected to demonstrate sound judgment, discretion, tact, and strong written and verbal communication skills.

MENTORING & EVALUATION
The marketing and communications intern will receive frequent, high-quality supervision and interaction with professional staff members to such an extent as to foster the acquisition of a general overview of and specific skills in a broad range of university careers, including jobs in alumni relations, communications, marketing or public relations. In turn, as a future alumnus, the student provides an invaluable link with and insight into the Arkansas Alumni Association's primary constituency: its alumni.
The marketing and communications intern will be provided with ongoing informal feedback and a formal performance evaluation within the nine-week assignment period.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Sophomore Class standing in a marketing, communications, journalism or advertising/public relations major
  • A desire to pursue a career in marketing, public relations, communications, journalism or alumni relations
  • Excellent verbal communication, writing and editing skills
  • A background in journalism, with knowledge of Associated Press style, is required;
  • Experience with online content and social media
