About the Department:
The Walter J. Lemke Department of Journalism offers specialized sequences in news/editorial, advertising/public relations and broadcast. Students are trained in writing news, analyzing media, planning campaigns, producing television programs and basic photojournalism publishing. The department offers special interdisciplinary options, various student media organizations, award-winning faculty and a Center for Ethics in Journalism.
The Lemke Department of Journalism is an accredited program with more than 700 majors in the following areas: Advertising/Public Relations, Broadcast Journalism and News/Editorial.

Summary of Job Duties
The Lemke Department of Journalism at the University of Arkansas seeks a strategic public relations/advertising journalism Instructor. This is a nine-month non-tenure-track appointment, to teach Public Relations Writing and other public relations and/or advertising classes, beginning in August 2017 or January 2018. The successful candidate will teach at least three classes each fall and spring semester, will serve as adviser for the Public Relations Student Society of America, and may serve as the adviser for the student-run Ad/PR agency in student media.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

  • Master's degree in public relations, journalism, mass communication, digital or social media communication, advertising, or a related field must be conferred by the start of employment
  • Demonstrated qualifications to teach Public Relations Writing (for example, experience in writing typical PR communications materials such as press releases, social and digital media content, etc.) and other public relations and/or advertising courses
  • Relevant professional experience in public relations and/or advertising


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching public relations and/or advertising courses
  • College teaching experience
  • At least five years of professional experience in public relations, advertising, digital or social communications or branding relevant to public relations communications, writing, strategy, and/or implementation
