Summary of Job Duties
The Lemke Department of Journalism in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas is accepting applications for a non-tenure track Clinical Assistant Professor to teach online classes offered in the Journalism Minor starting in August 2017. The successful candidate should be qualified to teach and/or to coordinate the teaching of JOUR 1023 Media and Society, JOUR 1033 Fundamentals of Journalism, JOUR 2003 Writing for Today's Media, JOUR 2053 Multimedia Journalism, JOUR 2063 Media Technology, JOUR 3633 Media Law, and/or JOUR 4333 Ethics online.
This position will be the primary contact to work with departmental administrators and Global Campus to ensure that instructors are secured for online courses. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable of and/or trained in Blackboard and minimal HTML coding to facilitate maintenance of the online courses in the minor. The Clinical Assistant Professor will train instructors, who are new to teaching online courses, in Blackboard and other differences between online and classroom, as well as be a generalist who understands the learning objectives of each course and can recommend course changes as they are needed. This position will edit courses for various needs as required and will coordinate with Global Campus for any additional course development, editing, or training that might be needed to maintain the minor.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in journalism, mass communication, or a closely related field
  • Experience teaching university courses, online, or face-to-face
  • At least three years of professional experience in news writing and editing, broadcast reporting, advertising, public relations, visual journalism, and/or digital media


Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or relevant terminal degree with an emphasis in journalism and mass communication or a related area
  • Experience in online teaching, preferably journalism courses
  • Demonstrated skills in Blackboard or other content management system
