The Department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering ( MTE ) at The University of Alabama (UA) invites applications for a tenured/tenure-track assistant or associate professor position from candidates with expertise that is consistent with building upon and expanding the strengths of our department. Particular areas of interest include: (i) Corrosion Science And Engineering emphasizing electrochemistry, corrosion protection, corrosion modeling, and protective coatings; or (ii) Metal Additive Manufacturing emphasizing synthesis and characterization of powder feedstock, developing processing/structure/properties relationships, fusion-based methods for additive manufacturing, and simulation and modeling of additive manufacturing processes. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or in a closely related discipline. The successful candidate will be expected to exhibit a strong commitment to teaching and research in metallurgical and materials engineering.
The University of Alabama has experienced unprecedented growth and prosperity over the last decade including significant increases in undergraduate and graduate enrollment within the College of Engineering and the completion of the $300 MM Engineering and Science Complex which provides nearly one million square feet of state-of-the-art research and instructional space. The MTE department is currently comprised of nine full-time faculty members with active funded research grants and enrolls more than 130 undergraduate and graduate students. The Department has a strong history of research and teaching in the areas of solidification science and molten metal processing, materials characterization, mechanical behavior, thin film deposition, magnetic materials and devices, and computational materials science.
