TES Agent Assistant - Tobacco Prevention - ACES (Limestone County)

TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. The Agent Assistant will be responsible for implementing and coordinating the goals and objectives of the tobacco prevention program in Limestone County. The Agent Assistant will utilize the Tobacco Prevention Toolkit provided by the Alabama Department of Public Health in accordance with the program. The duties of the Agent Assistant would include: coordinate with schools, churches, home school clubs, counselors, after school programs to schedule and deliver the program. Maintain frequent communications with the County Extension Coordinator as needed to provide updates and pertinent information. Must have good organizational skills to efficiently and accurately maintain records of educational sessions and progress, as well as follow the guidelines and policies of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. The individual will participate in initial and on-the-job training; keep accurate records of time, travel and supplies; appropriate communication with the County Extension Coordinator; and publicize programs through local media (may include radio, newspaper and television).

The focus of the program will be to communicate basic information about tobacco products, including e-cigarettes/vape pens, and the harm they cause. Students will gain awareness of strategies manufacturers of tobacco, including e-cigarettes/vape pens, employ to increase use among adolescents through deceptive and creative marketing strategies. Students will develop skills to refuse experimentation and use of tobacco.

The Agent Assistant will have a flexible up to 25-hour work week schedule and will periodically provide programs during evening and/or weekend hours.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications required are high school diploma/GED and at least four years of related work experience. Some college or technical training is preferred in related field and can substitute for some of the required work experience. Must have effective communication and human relations skills; a working knowledge in operating a personal computer (experience with software programs including Microsoft Word and Power Point). The successful applicant must have a demonstrated interest in working with youth. Must have a sincere interest in working with professional staff in an educational setting; ability to follow instructions related to work with minimum supervision from professional staff, a willingness to become familiar with and work within the philosophy and guidelines of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. Must have a valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
