4-H Agent Assistant I/II - Jackson County Extension Office (70%)

**This is a one-year limited term and part time position serving as a 4-H Agent Assistant in Jackson County. It is located in Scottsboro, Alabama. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funding.**

The Agent Assistant will be responsible for implementing and coordinating the goals and objectives for the Jackson County 4-H program. For the County 4-H Program, the Agent Assistant will work with schools and volunteers to coordinate and/or facilitate in-school, after-school, and special interest community 4-H clubs.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to: keep 4-Hers informed about upcoming events and deadlines; responsible for registering youth for 4-H events, develop day camp opportunities; work with adult volunteers; and maintain frequent communications with volunteers as needed to provide updates and pertinent information.

The Agent will also assist in preparing curriculum, implementing youth related programs and working directly with youth activities. The Agent Assistant will follow and adapt, when necessary, specific lesson plans designed to broaden youth social and cognitive skills through hands-on activities. The Agent Assistant serves as a member of the County 4-H Centennial Youth Initiative Team and assists with County 4-H and Extension activities.

Must have good organizational skills to efficiently and accurately maintain records of youth educational sessions and progress, as well as follow the guidelines and policies of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES). The Agent Assistant will assist and/or work with the County Extension Coordinator and 4-H Foundation Regional Extension Agent in activities that benefit Jackson County youth. Travel to program sites is reimbursed monthly in accordance with Auburn University & ACES policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
Entry into the applicant pool requires a high school diploma or equivalent; four (4) years of experience in the organization and/or presentation of pre-designed educational programs/services, customer service, administrative support/clerical or related experience; and a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to selection. Employer will consider advanced degrees in lieu of experience. Effective communication and human relations skills; a working knowledge in operating a personal computer (i.e. software programs including Microsoft Word and Access) are all critical.

The successful applicant must have a demonstrated interest in working with youth ages 5-19 concerning a variety of issues. Must have a sincere interest in working with volunteers and professional staff in an educational setting, and the ability to recruit, train and motivate volunteers while nurturing positive self-esteem, decision-making and leadership skills; ability to follow instructions related to work with minimum supervision from professional staff; a willingness to become familiar with and work within the philosophy and guidelines of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System; and access to reliable transportation.
