1. Doctoral degree required; at least one degree (doctorate or master's) from a CEPH accredited program required; at least one degree with Community Health Education or related concentration preferred;
2. Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in the areas of community health education theory and methods, intervention design, program planning and evaluation, community-based research and policy advocacy, health equity and social justice and community mental health;
3. Experience in and commitment to teaching, learning, scholarship, and collaboration that includes interdisciplinary, social justice, multicultural, and global perspectives and applications;
4. Demonstrated ability to effectively design, teach, and evaluate graduate and undergraduate courses, in traditional, online, and hybrid formats;
5. Ability to work collegially with others in the maintenance, development, and continued accreditation of the MPH program, as well as contribute to the department's strategic planning and commitments;
6. Demonstrated ability in research and scholarship, including grants, presentations, publications, and an evolving community-based research agenda;
7. Membership and active participation in public health and community health education professional organizations and demonstrated potential for leadership;
8. Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and flexibility in group and organizational development; and
9. Applicants should demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to educational goals of a multicultural population as
might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
1. Teach courses in the MPH and undergraduate Public Health programs, including program planning, intervention design, evaluation, theory, community organizing, and community-based research methods, community mental health, policy and health care organization, and group dynamics (classroom, online, and hybrid formats);
2. Leadership in the Public Health programs, including oversight for ongoing assessment of student learning objectives and program outcomes, alignment of online and campus courses, continuous improvement of teaching and learning, and adherence to all CEPH accreditation requirements;
3. Conduct research, develop successful grants, present professional papers, regularly publish in professional journals, and otherwise contribute to the scholarship of public health and community health education;
4. Work with colleagues to further develop the department's strategic directions, particularly regarding the linkages between public health, recreation, community engagement, and environmental/policy strategies for building healthy communities;
5. Engage in community and university outreach to develop and maintain practicum sites, curriculum resources, service-learning opportunities, alumni engagement, and development opportunities;
6. Participate in analysis of and planning for the changing ecology of higher education and the public health workforce, including development of a strategic plan and concrete activities for continuing education, professional development, individual certification, and program accreditation;
7. Participate in key Public Health faculty initiatives and responsibilities, including reviewing the MPH comprehensive examination, conducting program assessment, serving on thesis/project committees, advising, acting as advisor to student organizations, and planning and attending department convocations;
8. Participate in the department's governance processes, including department meetings, subgroup collaboration, and internal leadership and initiatives;
9. Serve on department, college, and university committees as appropriate for rank; and
10. Consistently address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, primary
language, ability, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, and academic preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies, advisement, and respectful engagement.
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
