Job Purpose
To instruct students in all levels of American Sign Language in accordance to college policies and procedures.

Reports To
Reports to the Department Chair of Human Services

Description of Duties and Tasks
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Responsible for teaching American Sign Language I-VI.
2. Responsible for instructing students in accordance with College policies and procedures.
3. Serves as full time faculty member in the American Sign Language and Interpreter Preparation Program.
4. Participates in ongoing curriculum development, implementation and evaluation. Utilizes innovative teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of a diverse student population.
5. Responsibilities also include advising students, maintaining office hours, serving on program and College committees, maintaining professional competence, and participating in professional development activities. Seeking candidates who can demonstrate creativity and innovation in the field, and service in the profession and/or the community.

Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

Required
Candidates must also possess the knowledge of subject matter and related and/or relevant topics and issues in the teaching discipline and be sensitive to issues relating to a diverse student body with an understanding of the principles and practices associated with Servant-Leadership.

Must possess required skills and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

Required
- Candidates must demonstrate effective teaching techniques adaptable to a variety of learning styles with an understanding of the comprehensive mission and philosophy of community colleges.
- All candidates must have effective planning, organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Skill set of candidates should include the ability to effectively assist and assess student learning. Must have the ability to interact with students of diverse backgrounds and be punctual for classes and office hours.
- Instructors are expected to maintain an established schedule, including possible evenings and weekends.
- ACC instructors are expected to maintain the confidentiality of student information and demonstrate proficiency using computer applications, classroom or other current learning technologies for effective teaching at the community college level.

Computer Skills
Required
Must possess intermediate knowledge of Microsoft office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and be able to learn specialized software.

Work Experience
Required
Three years work experience in Deaf Services.

Preferred
Prior administration experience in a higher education setting. Successful collegiate or university teaching experience, especially at a community college.

Education
Required
Master's degree or above in American Sign Language; or Master's degree or above and 18 hours in American Sign Language/Deaf Studies/Linguistic-related coursework.

Preferred
PhD in American Sign Language

Licenses/Certifications
Preferred
ASLTA Certified

Application Procedures
Selected interviewees are expected to prepare and deliver a 15 to 20 minute teaching demonstration. Interviewees may also be required to submit a portfolio of recent professional work at the time of interview including any materials created for teaching environment.

Transcript Requirements

Foreign Transcripts
Applicants who have degrees earned from educational institutions located outside of the United States are required to have their transcripts evaluated by a recognized credential evaluation service prior to applying for Faculty and/or Adjunct Faculty positions. If the transcripts are in a foreign language, applicants also need to have their transcripts translated prior to applying for ACC job opportunities.
