Full-time Faculty in Film, Video, New Media
FACULTY in FILM, VIDEO, AND NEW MEDIA PRODUCTION
The School of the Art Institute of Chicago s Department of Film, Video, and New Media seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position beginning Fall 2010. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience, teaching, and current professional status.
The department seeks candidates who have a strong conceptual and historical grasp of contemporary issues in the intersecting worlds of experimental video production, filmmaking, and new media. The department is looking for artists who work directly with film and/or digital media. Given its position in an art school with a transdisciplinary focus, the Department of Film, Video, and New Media is committed to alternative forms and practices that emphasize innovation. We recognize that current artistic practices combine media within several modes of exhibition; including but not limited to theaters, galleries, museums, festivals, broadcast, and webcast.
The Film, Video and New Media Department is one of twenty departments at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The department is chaired by a full-time faculty member, with 8 full-time senior faculty, a full-time visiting artist, and 20 part-time faculty offering 100 courses each academic year as part of the School s comprehensive studio program. The department has 35 graduate students who work with faculty through individual tutorial sessions. Related campus resources include the Video Data Bank, the 16mm Film Study Collection archived in SAIC s Flaxman Library, the Gene Siskel Film Center, and Conversations at the Edge, a weekly series of screenings, artist talks, and performances organized by the department of Film, Video, and New Media.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to Teach both theory and practice; to participate in curricular initiatives; and to advise undergraduate and graduate students in a fine arts context.
Qualifications: Applicants must have an active professional creative practice with a significant exhibition record. The ideal candidate is committed to teaching media production and capable of creating a critical and inventive environment in the classroom. Applicants should be familiar with various methods of production DIY to industry standards. A minimum of three years teaching experience at the college level is required.
