Job Description

Thunderbird School of Global Management’s Assistant Director of Student Engagement will design, implement, promote, and manage a broad spectrum of campus activities and programming for students, which will cultivate an active and diverse student body and nurture student leadership development. This leadership position is responsible for creating a welcoming space for Thunderbird students and ensures that all key support systems for Thunderbird student clubs and organizations are managed efficiently, promptly and with a strong student-orientation, educational and learning focus. In addition, the position implements Foundations, Thunderbird’s new student orientation program, along with other Thunderbird signature events that with a goal of fostering an inclusive and engaging environment for all Thunderbird students. This position will report into the Executive Director of Enrollment and Student Success, and will join Thunderbird’s larger Student Success team.

 

Salary Range

$52,000 - $55,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Coordinate and implement student engagement programming for undergraduate and graduate Thunderbird students – both day and night activities and events
  • Continuously improves student access to support services by resolving complex student issues, recommending measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Student Success team
  • Collaborates with university partners, including Dean of Students, Student Advocacy and Assistance, Counseling Services, and Residence Life offices to respond to student concerns and support the larger community in interpreting procedures and services.
  • Creates effective marketing strategies to promote programs and events sponsored by Student Engagement, Student Success
  • Provides functional event support and management for all student activities, events & Thunderbird’s Student Government
  • Coordinates all payments and other event logistics for all student activities, events & Thunderbird’s Student Government.
  • Manages all student organizations and clubs
  • Assists with the registration process for new student organizations and clubs
  • Supervises a small group of student staff, including the DasTor student editor, Foundation leaders, and Student Engagement student staff
  • Assists in general student supervision for the department (reception desk, student workers, etc.)
  • Coordinates and manage Thunderbird signature events: Foundations (new student orientation) and Regional Night per semester, in collaboration with other Student Success staff
  • Maintains supplies and materials for student activities, clubs, organizations and Thunderbird Student Government storage room
  • Organizes and lead initiatives for international students that foster their adjustment to the campus and community; includes but not limited to collaborating with ASU’s International Student and Scholars Center for immigration workshops, develop conversation hour, and collaborating with other academic units.
  • Develops, edits, and distributes student communications, including newsletters and website content. In consultation with Thunderbird Branding and Communication staff
  • Participates in professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in related field AND three (3) years of directly related experience in a student services administrative environment; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities that may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • This position requires significant evening and weekend work.
