Teacher, 7th & 8th Grade Social Studies - Widener Partnership Charter School

Widener University is currently seeking a 7 th /8 th Grade Social Studies Teacher in Widener Partnership Charter school. This role reports to the Principal/CEO and provides support to all 7 th /8 th grade students at Widener Partnership Charter School in the area of Social Studies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to) :

Essential duties:
  • Drive student achievement and set high expectations for all students.
  • Assess the skill level of students and align classroom goals and activities to established state and local standards.
  • Implement rigorous and appropriate lesson plans, assignments, and assessments.
  • Provide instruction in mathematics and science utilizing the workshop model.
  • Teach inquiry techniques that encourage experimentation and alternative approaches to problem solving.
  • Create a classroom environment in which students have access to subject-related materials that address their needs and interests.
  • Work closely with school leaders to analyze student assessment data to measure progress and use data to inform instruction.
  • Collaborate in grade level teams to discuss student work and share best practices.
  • Engage families in their children's education by building relationships and maintaining regular communication.
  • Demonstrate genuine interest, belief, and care for students' personal and academic success.
  • Respond positively and effectively to challenges with a solutions-oriented resiliency.
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments and improvements in education as it affects the instructional program; attend faculty meetings to discuss school challenges and teaching methods.
  • Maintain classroom discipline.
  • Maintain attendance, grades, and other required records.

Secondary responsibilities:
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required) :

Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • PA Certification
  • Commitment to WPCS mission and belief that all students can learn.
  • Experience using educational technology.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with parents.

Preferred:
    • 1-3 years teaching experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS:
  • Usual teaching environment.
  • Some walk-in traffic.
  • High level of interactions with others in person.
  • Must be able to stand and teach, occasionally sitting at a desk, walking or climbing stairs; mobility between classrooms and offices.
