Widener Partnership Charter School

Classroom Teacher
The mission of the Widener Partnership Charter School (WPCS) is to develop urban elementary (K-8) students with the behaviors, task commitment and creativity to succeed in the current educational environment. Through holistic cultivation of children's resources, the WPCS will enable students to become self-motivated, competent, and lifelong learners. The school will aim to educate its students to become citizens of character who can contribute to the vitality and well-being of the region.
By providing a multicultural, student-centered environment in which all students are held to high academic and behavioral standards and by engaging parents and caregivers as partners in the education of their children, the WPCS will provide the context for students to work in collaborative relationships both within and outside the school to provide service to the greater community.

Widener Partnership Charter School is a vibrant place of learning for 450 students in kindergarten through eighth grade hailing from the Chester area. A Widener Partnership Charter School education is rigorous and challenging, relevant and engaging, and based on strong and motivating teacher/student, staff team, and peer relationships.

The Classroom teacher is a 10-month position designed to provide reading instruction and support to the students of Widener Partnership Charter School.

Primary Job Responsibilities Include:
  • Drive student achievement and set high expectations for all students
  • Assess the skill level of students and aligns classroom goals and activities to established state and local standards
  • Implement rigorous and appropriate lesson plans, assignments, and assessments
  • Provide instruction in respective subject area utilizing the workshop model through balanced literacy and balanced math.
  • Teach inquiry techniques that encourage experimentation and alternative approaches to problem solving
  • Create a classroom environment in which students have access to subject-related
    materials that address their needs and interests
  • Work closely with school leaders to analyze student assessment data to measure progress and use data to inform instruction
  • Collaborate in grade level teams to discuss student work and share best practices
  • Engage families in their children's education by building relationships and maintaining regular communication
  • Demonstrate genuine interest, belief, and care for students' personal and academic
    success
  • Respond positively and effectively to challenges with a solutions-oriented resiliency
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments and improvements in education as it affects the instructional program; attend faculty meetings to discuss school problems and teaching methods
  • Maintain classroom discipline
  • Maintain attendance, grade and other required records
  • Additional duties as assigned


Position Requirements:
  • 1-3 years teaching experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • PA Certification
  • Commitment to WPCS mission and belief that all students can learn
  • Knowledge of teaching methods, curriculum, and education programs
  • Experience with using educational technologies
  • The ability to communicate effectively with parents
  • Demonstrated professionalism and responsibility, and a strong work ethic

Classroom Teachers report directly to the Principal

Based on the nature of this role, employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a comprehensive criminal background and reference check, PA Child Abuse Clearances and employment verification.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
  • Usual teaching environment; some walk-in traffic, high level of interactions with others in person.
  • Must be able to stand and teach, occasionally sitting at a desk, walking or climbing stairs; mobility between classrooms and offices.
