Systems Engineering Program
The Jacobs School of Engineering at UC San Diego seeks a leading industry professional and educator who will serve as the curriculum architect and Faculty Director for the Systems Engineering Program within the Jacobs School of Engineering.
This position will also have a concurrent appointment as a Professor of Practice. Appointees in the Professor of Practice series are distinguished professionals with specific expertise in their fields and are able to provide students and faculty additional opportunities to interact with and to benefit from the presence of experienced professionals who have distinguished practical accomplishments in their fields. The appointment will be in one of our six departments:
- Bioengineering,
- Computer Science and Engineering,
- Electrical and Computer Engineering,
- Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering,
- Nanoengineering,
- Structural Engineering.
The Systems Engineering Program is being created to introduce undergraduate and M.S. engineering students to the discipline of Systems Engineering. In addition, the importance of systems engineering is recognized by industry, and therefore graduating students who understand this discipline well has become an important priority within the Jacobs School of Engineering. The development of such a program will help strengthen the Jacobs School's position as a premiere recruiting destination for top engineering firms.
Responsibilities
The Systems Engineering Program Faculty Director will be responsible for building the Systems Engineering Program from the ground up and for oversight of all aspects of the Program, including the identification and coordination of resources to be used in building and maintaining the Program and its objectives. Teaching undergraduate and graduate students a deeper understanding of the practical applications of the field of systems engineering is required for this position. The position also requires individuals to maintain professional competence and activity, to conduct research and/or participate in creative activity related to our research mission, and to engage in service.
Requirements
- This position requires a PhD in bioengineering, computer science, electrical engineering, engineering physics, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, nanoengineering, structural engineering, systems engineering or a related area.
- Demonstrated evidence of past educational activities which may include (but is not limited to): curriculum development, curriculum oversight, classroom teaching, and/or graduate mentorship.
Preferred candidates will have:
- Over 10 years of industry experience as it relates to systems engineering and/or curriculum development;

Salary
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications in conformance with University of California policies.
