Accountant

Reports To: Business Office Accounting Supervisor
Position Type: Full Time, 12 months

Summary:
The Accountant performs a wide range of detailed/complex accounting and advisory functions pertaining to assigned fund area, accounts or department and assures day-to-day operations are carried out in accordance with established accounting principles, policies and objectives. This includes duties related to billing, posting and reconciling general ledger accounts. This position will be responsible for providing financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data; preparing reports. The Accountant will ensure process improvement and techniques to further the department's ability to produce reporting that supports accurate and timely management and decision-making.

Essential Responsibilities:
• Oversees daily processing and accounting for revenue and expenditures by departments; reviews and reports financial transactions to funding sources; ensures accuracy, completeness, and compliance with college, local, state, and federal requirements, and standard accounting and audit procedures.
• Investigates and resolves problems related to funds, budgets, expenditures, and/or procurement practices.
• Monitors all banking activity and prepares a daily summary of cash transactions, then records the appropriate journal entries.
• Responsible for maintaining the accounting system, Colleague, including daily system updates.
• Provides assistance in the development, implementation and maintenance of internal fiscal systems and procedures, applying basic concepts, methods, and techniques.
• Prepares accounting reports and statements, such as detailed cost and financial analysis, forecasts and projection.
• Identifies informational needs of management and revises or refines account structures or data accordingly.
• Prepares and enters journal entries, maintains complex ledgers, prepares detailed cost accounting information and reconciles and analyzes reports and ledgers.
• Decides proper handling of financial transactions; approves transactions within designated limits.
• Assists with preparing and coordinating financial audit.
• Processes non-student billing.
• Assists in monitoring and supporting taxation requirements.
• Enters GL account access and approvals.
• Ensures that assigned tasks are completed in compliance with various institutional and regulatory requirements to maintain the integrity of financial data.
• Responsible for ensuring that assigned tasks are completed in compliance with various institutional and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain a professional and courteous attitude at all times towards co-workers, internal and external customers, representing Keuka College, its programs, policies, and procedures in a positive and professional manner. Maintain effective working relationships to ensure institution-wide teamwork.
• Attend provided/necessary training and other meetings to support effectiveness within the position as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. A Bachelor's or Associate's degree in accounting or related field and at least two (2) years' experience in related accounting field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
2. Advanced computer experience required, with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Ellucian experience a plus.
3. Ability to analyze processes and identify ways to create efficiencies.
4. Ability to work independently and perform research.
5. Excellent planning and organizational skills.
6. Ability to multi-task and work in a busy office setting. Must be able to stay focused and not easily distracted.
7. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
8. Understand and behave with a high level of integrity and complete confidentiality at all times
9. Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
10. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
11. Ability to be sensitive to and respond to the needs and concerns of all constituents of the College including but not limited to students, faculty, college staff and the public.
12. Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people.

Physical Requirements:
• Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
• Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
