The University of Redlands invites applications for Department Chair in the Theatre Arts Department to begin September 2020. The successful candidate will be appointed as an Associate Professor or Professor of Acting and Directing and will serve as Chair for a department with two degrees in Theatre Arts and Theatre Business. Also, the person hired will provide curricular and artistic leadership while teaching Performance courses and directing at least one main stage production per year. Familiarity with musical theatre direction is required. Research areas may include: Latinx theatre/drama; African-American theatre/drama; disability studies; community-based theatre; applied theatre; or comparable fields.

The University values applicants who have experience working with students from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Candidates who apply are asked to identify their strengths and experience working with diverse student populations to accomplish curricular goals. The successful candidate will be expected to support the College of Arts and Science's general education curriculum.

Founded in 1907, the University of Redlands is a liberal arts and professional institution in a town of 70,000 located 60 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The campus is surrounded by orange groves and sits at the base of the San Bernardino Mountains, one hour from the coast and 45 minutes from Palm Springs.

POSITION CRITERIA: An M.F.A. or Ph.D. in Theatre or Performance Studies is required. A strong record of program leadership, teaching at the undergraduate level, and evidence of success utilizing processes of theatre production as pedagogical tools are required. Opportunity to teach within interdisciplinary programs such as Race and Ethnic Studies; Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; or other areas. Expertise in training methodologies such as Viewpoints, Moment work, Suzuki physical training, or Theatre of the Oppressed are welcome.
