Professor of Practice and Beavers-Ames Heavy Civil Chair

Location: Arizona State University – Tempe Campus

 

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) and the Del E. Web School of Construction (DEWSC) of the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment (SSEBE) seeks applicants for a Professor of Practice in heavy civil construction, beginning in the Fall 2020 semester. The position is aimed at advancing the construction management program while increasing the reputation, stature, and student enrollment in the area of heavy civil construction.

Faculty members are expected to engage in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in construction, mentoring students, and creating and maintaining relationships with the heavy civil construction industry. Other responsibilities include holding office hours, participating in course and program assessment, and working with student organizations and competition teams. The hire will also be responsible for overseeing the heavy civil construction courses taught by other faculty, lecturers, and faculty associates (adjunct faculty).

This position is partially funded by an endowment created by the Beavers Heavy Civil Construction professional organization in honor of William Ames and Wink Ames. This is an academic year appointment, with the likelihood of subsequent academic year appointments enabled by ongoing funding provided by the endowment.  Additional funding is dependent on the successful candidate assisting the DEWSC program chair in raising funds from the heavy civil construction industry.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

• MS in construction management, construction engineering, or a related discipline by start of appointment
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to develop strong ties with the heavy civil construction industry in Arizona
• Twenty years of heavy civil construction industry management experience
• Extensive leadership experience in the heavy civil construction industry

Preferred Qualifications:

• PhD in construction management, construction engineering, or a related discipline
• Teaching experience in an undergraduate construction management or engineering program
• Twenty-five years of construction industry field management experience
• PE license, CPC, or other professional certification
• Demonstrated record of securing external development funding for academic programs
