Assistant Professor of Education (Elementary)

Job Summary: The Education Department of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences seeks candidates for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Education to begin in Fall 2020.

Minimum Qualifications: Requirements for the position include an earned doctorate in education or a related field from an accredited university. We seek faculty with expertise in the following areas: early childhood education and elementary literacy. Experience with English Language Learners, student teachers, the edTPA, and social-emotional learning will be helpful.

The successful candidate will have teacher certification, a minimum of four years of teaching in P-6 settings, and experience with collaborative partnerships in diverse educational settings. Teaching experience at the undergraduate level is preferred. The candidate should have an ability to integrate technology into instruction, and to be open to a variety of course delivery methods (e.g. online or hybrid). Familiarity with accreditation processes will be helpful.

Essential Functions: Primary responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate instruction in P - 6 education methods. Supervision of student teaching may be assigned. The expected course load for our faculty is 21 credits; typically distributed as a 3:4 course load. Applicants should have an active research agenda that leads to high-quality peer reviewed publications and presentations.

About the Department and School: The Education Department is a member of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences along with departments for psychology, criminal justice, and social work. The Education Department offers a variety of teacher preparation programs including: (1) elementary education, grades 1-6, with dual certification for students with disabilities (2) a birth through second grade teacher certification, and (3) 7- 12 grade certification in seven content areas (English, math, social studies, biology, chemistry, Spanish, and French) also with dual certification for students with disabilities. The department offers a 5-year program to the elementary/students with disabilities candidates that results in an MA in Educational Psychology. Our adolescence education program is offered only in a 5-year format, and provides graduates with the coursework to complete certification in their content area for grades 7-12, special education certification, and as Master of Arts in Teaching.
