Assistant Professor of Education (Adolescent)

Job Summary: The Marist College Education Department seeks candidates for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Education to begin in fall 2020.

Minimum Qualifications: Requirements for the position include an earned doctorate in special education, or a related field from an accredited university. In particular, we seek faculty with expertise in one or more of these areas: special education methods for grades 7 - 12 and/or teaching methods in a secondary content area of either mathematics or social studies.

The successful candidate will have teacher certification, teaching experience in 7-12 settings, including experience with collaborative partnerships in diverse educational settings and students with disabilities. The candidate should have an ability to integrate technology into instruction, and to be open to a variety of course delivery methods (e.g. online or hybrid). Familiarity with accreditation processes will be helpful.

Essential Functions: Primary responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate instruction in P - 12 education methods. Supervision of student teaching may be assigned. The expected course load for our faculty is 21 credits; typically distributed as a 3:4 course load. Applicants should have an active research agenda that leads to high-quality peer reviewed publications and presentations.

About the Department: The Education Department is a member of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences along with departments for psychology, criminal justice, and social work. The Education Department offers a variety of teacher preparation programs including: (1) elementary education, grades 1-6, with dual certification for students with disabilities (2) a birth through second grade teacher certification, and (3) 7 - 12 grade certification in seven content areas (English, math, social studies, biology, chemistry, Spanish, and French) also with dual certification for students with disabilities. The department offers a 5-year program to the elementary/students with disabilities candidates that results in an MA in Educational Psychology. Our adolescence education program is offered only in a 5-year format, and provides graduates with the coursework to complete certification in their content area for grades 7-12, special education certification, and as Master of Arts in Teaching.
