Career Development Specialist I - Student Success

Job Summary

Columbus State University has an opening for a Career Development Specialist I. This position will report to the Director of the Center for Career Development and will include coordination of all aspects of the student success (career readiness and job preparation) and financial success (money management) initiatives. This position also provides career advising services to students and alumni, including resume critiquing and mock interviewing in order to prepare students for a successful job search suited to their career goals and aspirations.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: administering the student success initiative that includes overseeing the curriculum and tracking student progress for Career Ready; coordinating the Am I Job Ready software for student assessment; planning and implementing Professionalism 101 training workshops for students; overseeing the planning of signature events, including the Professional Development Dinner; providing specialized training for specific academic majors and student service department; supervising the newly implemented Career Studio; overseeing the Peer Career Advisors; and providing extensive training and evaluation for all student team members.

This position will also coordinate the Money Matters initiative related to student career development, which includes: creating materials for salary negotiation, cost of living, salary expectations, and other topics; providing specialized training for other relevant financial topics; track and assess student success outcomes, to include data collection and analysis for monthly and annual reports; track Career Ready program requirements and subsequent student completion; maintain student attendance records for all events for annual impact data report; serve as campus liaison to promote and expand the Center's services, to include, serving as liaison to the College of Business for the purpose of classroom presentations, student appointments, and other related requests; providing public speaking services, including classroom presentations on requested topics such as the Center's services, Resume/Interview, Soft Skills Development, etc.; support the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) initiatives including planning activities related to real-world problem solving; and all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and three to five years' of considerable progressively responsible experience in student affairs, career development, and/or human resources; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate must have outstanding verbal, written, interpersonal, and public speaking communication skills; be creative, innovative, and outgoing; considerable knowledge of the principles of office management, office procedures, and systems; an exceptional proven ability to successfully plan, organize, and coordinate events; the ability to compose effective correspondence; excellent marketing skills, including the ability to design promotional print materials and utilize on-line social media tools (proficiency with Canva and/or InDesign a plus); a demonstrated ability to maintain complex administrative records and prepare appropriate reports; be an outstanding team player with the ability to maintain effective working relationships and communicate with administrators, employees, students, and the general public; possess superior computer skills and familiarity with database and record systems; possess outstanding organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task, work well under pressure, and meet timely deadlines; possess the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

Proposed Salary

The annualized salary for this position is $35,000.
